Ashmead Closes In

With the 2009 event now in the books, some notable milestones in career miles in the Daytona 200 were achieved this year:1. 1989 Daytona 200 winner John Ashmead established a new record of racing in 25 Daytona 200 events, breaking a tie with Rick Shaw.2. Ashmead now has 3,677 career miles and trails the leader Shaw by only 51 miles and is in position to establish a new career miles record in 2010.3. Ricky Orlando now has 3,524 miles, and remains 3rd overall.4. Miguel Duhamel now has 2,639 miles and is now tied with Earl Widman for 5th overall.5. Anthony Fania has 1,998 and is tied with Dick Klamfoth for 20th overall.6. Dean Mizdal has 1,957 and moves up to 23rd overall.7. Michael Barnes now has 1,806 and moves up to 27th overall.The exclusive database of every rider to have raced in the all Daytona 200 races will be updated and included in the upcoming “Daytona 200 Update 2004-2009,” a companion publication to author Don Emde’s “The Daytona 200. The History of America’s Premier Motorcycle Race,” due out before next year’s Daytona 200.
