AMA Chevrolet Motocross Championship

| June 12, 2004

The first sessions of practice were held today at Southwick and there were some new faces out on the course. Since the series began at Hangtown a few weeks ago there have been some riders who were out because of injuries. This weekend Amsoil Honda rider Greg Schnell is back in action as well as Red Bull KTM’s Joaquim Rodrigues. Both riders looked fast in practice and Rodrigues won his qualifier. Ricky Carmichael had the fastest lap times while Chad Reed was second; James Stewart was third fastest on his 125.

Missing from the action is Southwick’s local hero Doug Henry. He isn’t racing but he is going to ride a parade lap around the course on his Troy Lee Designs Honda before the racing gets underway

The course is the roughest it has been in years and tomorrow will no doubt test the fitness of the riders. Word in the pits is that sections of the course have not been touched since last weekend’s amateur race. It looks like it’s shaping up to be a great weekend.
