Rain Dampens Springfield Weekend

| May 24, 2003
Rain, which was not predicted in the forecast, washed away the Springfield TT at the Illinois State Fairgrounds rodeo arena tonight, forcing the postponement of the TT until Monday – and that’s if the Mile is able to be completed without more rain.

Although the sky was overcast all day, the weather did not appear as though it would turn ugly as the racers prepared for practice at 3:15 p.m. CDT. All was going according to plan, with the first round of scratch heats being completed. But then the skies turned dark and a downpour ensued, forcing AMA officials to call the race at around 6:45 p.m.

Tentative plans are to run the Mile tomorrow as scheduled, but there was talk that both events could be run on Monday if the weather does not improve. Either way, all of today’s scratch heats will be thrown out, and the TT will be rerun in its entirety if and when.
