Honda-mounted Paul Carpenter won both motos at the AMA/Western 4-Stroke MX Nationals at the Extreme Motorsports Productions facility in Spokane, Washington, August 4. Nathan Woods, on a Yamaha, went 2-2 for second, while Honda rider Robb Floth packed a 3-4 punch to take third.

Billy Binkley and Derek Mahoney rounded out the top five overall.

Spud Walters, the series leader going into the race, finished 15th in the first moto after crashing in the first turn and took third in the second moto after getting off to a bad start. Walters ended up eighth overall and relinquished the points lead to Carpenter. Carpenter now has 330 points to Walters’ 323.
