Destry Wins Again

| May 14, 2001

Kawasaki Team Green’s Destry Abbott scored a wire-to-wire win at the AMA National Hare & Hound in Jericho, Utah, May 12. By winning, Abbott extends his series lead over Brian Brown, who finished fourth in Utah. With five of eight rounds now complete, Abbott could clinch the hare and hound title at the next round in Jackpot, Nevada, but Abbott will have to wait a while, since that race isn’t until September 22.

Second in Utah was Yamaha-mounted Russ Pearson, who took top honors in the 250cc class. Third overall went to Kawasaki-mounted Shane Esposito, while Brown and David Pearson rounded out the top five.

TM-mounted Luca Trussardi won the Vet class in sixth overall, while David Rees won the 125cc class and Jason Fox (Cannondale) the Four-Stroke class.

Former champ Ty Davis dropped out of the race when his Yamaha thumper experienced mechanical problems.
