The Salem, Oregon Rider Had Solid Results Riding for LOP Yamaha

In this week’s Throwback we dial back the clock to 1980 and that’s year’s Atlanta Supercross in the long since demolished Atlanta–Fulton County Stadium. This photo from the main shows LOP Yamaha’s Mark Gregson taking a jump while in pursuit of Gary Semics and Jimmy Weinert. You can also see Larry Wosick in the foreground. Gregson was one of the better motocross racers to come out of the Pacific Northwest. A 125cc national podium winner in his rookie pro season of 1978, Gregson was the top-ranked privateer in AMA 250 Motocross in 1979, finishing fifth in the series. Where Gregson finished in this Supercross event in Atlanta is a mystery. The Cycle News coverage mentions Gregson battling inside the top 10 with Wosick and Semics, but Mark is not listed in the final results for some odd reason. Semics finished 7th, Weinert 10th and Wosick 12th. Chuck Sun won the race that night.
