Barry Sheene Led the Brits to a Close Victory Over the Yanks that Year
In this week’s Throwback we travel back to 1974 and that year’s Transatlantic Match Races the epic Easter weekend event pitting America’s top road racers against those from the United Kingdom. This image shows Barry Sheene (14) leading a tightly-pack group at Mallory Park that includes Dave Croxford (11), Yvon Duhamel (7), Paul Smart (12), Gene Romero (3) and Stan Woods (15). Sheene was the top scorer for the UK team and led them to victory over the Americans despite American Kenny Roberts being the top overall scorer of the event. It was one of the closest Match Races of the series with UK winning by just 15 points (416-401).
