Lucas Coenen has been ruled out of this weekend’s MXGP of Flanders at Lommel due to continued aggravation of an injury suffered at the MXGP of Great Britain. Coenen rode free practice and set the fifth fastest lap time but did not ride the timed session and has since retired from the weekend. He currently sits second in the championship standings, 49 points back from the new leader Jeffrey Herlings.
The Red Bull KTM rider led the series standings just a few weeks ago but has since given up the points lead and will miss his third-straight race weekend. Coenen crashed during the qualifying race at the Foxhills round in England and sat out the Sunday motos with a compressed sciatic nerve. He then missed the MXGP of Czech Republic and now his home race in Belgium.
“Lucas Coenen ruled out of the MXGP of Flanders,” the team announced this morning. “After free practice, the Belgian made the decision to sit out his home race and focus on recovery.”
