It was a doubleheader weekend for Supercross fans in Australia as the fifth and final round of the Boost Mobile AUSX Supercross Championship wrapped up over the November 28-29 weekend in Adelaide, South Australia. A little more than 1000 miles away from the FIM WSX round that was being simultaneously held on the Gold Coast, the Australian Championship concluded with Dean Wilson claiming the overall win for the fourth time this season. With the win, Wilson also wrapped up the series title in the SX1 division.

Dean Wilson won the final round of the Australian Supercross Championship and the SX1 title.

Round five of the series saw the Scotsman dominate, sweeping both wins on Saturday night. Wilson only lost two races out of the 10 gate drops this season, both of those to Jett Lawrence at round four’s AUSX Open in Melbourne. The Quad Lock Honda rider bounced back at the season finale and ended the year on top. Wilson, the 2023 Australian champ, lost his mother earlier in the year and dedicated the championship to her.

“I went [won] eight out of 10 finals; it was amazing,” said Wilson. “I am so stoked to win, especially after everything I went through. I don’t win like I used to, so I cherish the wins we do get.”

CDR Yamaha’s Aaron Tanti earned his best result of the season by finishing second overall, narrowly beating out the Kawasaki of Luke Clout.

In the series points, French rider Cedric Soubeyras finished second to Wilson to make it a Quad Lock Honda 1-2 in the championship. Privateer KTM rider Hayden Mellross had the comeback story of the year and rounded out the season in third overall.

Ryder Kingsford at AUSX Rnd 5
Ryder Kingsford narrowly clinched the SX2 crown at the final round.

After championship leader Lux Turner crashed out of the series last weekend at the AUSX Open, the SX2 points chase was blown wide open. Turner’s CDR Yamaha teammate Ryder Kingsford looked to take full advantage of the situation at round five. A fall at the start of race one seemed troublesome, but the young Aussie rider climbed all the way back to third at the finish line, just one spot behind his title rival, Alex Larwood. Larwood did the most he could by winning the final race of the night and the overall for round five, but it wasn’t enough to knock off Kingsford, who claimed his first SX2 Championship by 12 points.

“Definitely made it more stressful than it needed to be with two crashes in both main events,” said Kingsford. “Growing up, I always dreamed of being able to race my dirt bike professionally, but to be able to now be crowned a champion is unbelievable.” CN
