Noah Dettwiler’s recovery has gone better than expected, especially considering his life-threatening injuries.

More details have been confirmed after the Swiss was hit from behind at high speed by Spaniard Jose Antonio Rueda on the sighting lap for the Moto3 race at Sepang in Malaysia two weeks ago.

Dettwiler suffered “several cardiac arrests” and “had to be resuscitated” at the side of the track before being taken to the hospital in Kuala Lumpur, according to a statement issued by his team.

He then underwent emergency surgery on October 26, Sunday night, to remove his spleen and stop internal bleeding, as well as address his leg, which had an open fracture. According to those close to the 20-year-old, the situation was extremely serious at that time.

But after remaining in a critical condition for several days, doctors had seen a marked improvement by Wednesday, October 29. Noah was awake and communicating with family. He will require another operation on his leg, and it remains unclear when he will return to Europe.

Rueda’s Ajo team also issued an update on this year’s Moto3 World Champion. He was transferred to a private hospital in Malaysia on Monday, October 27, to monitor the bruising on his lungs. There was hope that he’d be able to return to Spain soon to undergo surgery on his fractured right hand.CN
