In this week’s Throwback we dial the clock back to May of 1987 and the Montreal Supercross. This photo shows Michigan rider Alan King taking a jump on his Ron Nye-tuned, Tide-sponsored Suzuki RM250H inside a packed Olympic Stadium en route to scoring victory in Friday night’s main event. King took the win over Canadian hero Ross Pederson. Pederson came back and won Saturday night’s main. A record breaking 88,000 fans attended the two-night event, which was the 11th edition of the Montreal Supercross.

Both King and Pederson were awarded 12 Troy ounces of gold for their respective wins. In today’s value that gold would be worth about $45,000 apiece!
