With just two rounds remaining in the WMX Championship, it appears that defending champ Lachlan “La La” Turner is starting to stamp her name on the series again. The Altus Motorsports bLU cRU Yamaha rider is now 21 points clear of Australia’s Quad Lock Honda’s Charli Cannon after dominating both motos at Ironman Raceway, August 8-9, which ran alongside the AMA Pro Motocross Championship. The first WMX moto took place on Friday, and the second was held during the intermission of Pro MX on Saturday.

In the first moto, Turner worked her way through a tumultuous first turn with the lead and never looked back, easily taking the win.
Behind her, Mikayla Nielsen and Cannon squabbled over second. After banging bars a few times, Nielsen slid out on lap two but still held onto second over Cannon. Behind them, Kyleigh Stallings and Jordan Jarvis Racing’s Jordan Jarvis rounded out the top five. The order would remain this way to the finish, with Turner taking the checkers with more than 20 seconds to spare.
Stallings grabbed the holeshot ahead of Cannon and Nielsen in moto two; however, the race was red-flagged before one lap was completed, and the riders lined up to do it all over again. But, due to time constraints, the re-started moto was reduced to just five minutes plus a lap.
Stallings again grabbed the holeshot on the second start, with Cannon and Nielsen once again in second and third, respectively.
“My starts were good,” said Stallings. “I’ve always had pretty good starts, and I think it’s really just confidence, just going out there, honestly knowing you’re going to get the start. I got the first start, and then obviously we had a red flag, so I got it again, got out front quick, so I was pretty happy about that.”
Exiting the first turn at midpack, Turner had her work cut out for her but was already up to second by the end of lap one.

“When we did that restart, I got a terrible jump,” said Turner. “I rammed into the start and was near the back, but I made some quick passes to get up behind Charli and Kyleigh.”
On lap two, Cannon made a move to try to get around Turner on the backside of the track, but Turner fended off the bid. Meanwhile, Stallings, who won Loretta Lynn’s in 2023, was in her own battle over third with Nielsen.
On the final lap, Nielsen had caught up to Cannon and was attempting to pass for second but fell in a turn.
At the finish, Turner was first, with Cannon, Stallings, Jarvis and Nielsen rounding out the top five.
Turner was 1-1 for the overall win, with Cannon 2-2 in second and Stallings 4-3 for third.
“This is such a gratifying win,” said Turner. “Especially after the long break we just came off of. I’ve been working my butt off, and I’m so happy it shows. So much work I’ve put into this. I went from falling pretty much every race last year, and now I’m actually putting everything together, so it’s sick.”
Cannon had her struggles in the second moto but still maintained second. “I got a flat rear tire in that second moto,” said Cannon. “It would slide out in the turns. I had no traction, so that was a bit sketchy. I just tried to manage. It’s a shame, but I’ve got a lot of work to do, so I’m just looking forward to chipping away.”
Meanwhile, Stallings was impressive, grabbing back-to-back holeshots in the second moto after the red flag.
“I ended up making a mistake back in the tree section, which kind of messed me up a little bit,” said Stallings. “But I made sure I stayed on second and third the whole time, so I could capitalize on a mistake, and then Mikayla went down and I got third.”CN
