“Holeshot Hansen” Nailed the Start at Pontiac, but Immediately Has His Hands Full
In this week’s Throwback we dial back the clock to 1981 and visit the Pontiac Silverdome for that year’s Pontiac Supercross doubleheader. In one of the races, possibly a Heat, it was Honda’s Donnie Hansen living up to his nickname by earning the holeshot, but he looks a little out of shape heading the pack into the first turn. Donnie probably handled it with no issue, and likely didn’t even remember performing a stoppie going into the first turn. Trailing Hansen into the turn are Jeff Ward (12), Mike Bell (1), Danny LaPorte (17), Johnny O’Mara (40), Steve Martin (37) and others.
