Entering the weekend with five wins in six motos in this year’s Women’s Motocross Championship (WMX), Altus Motorsports bLU cRU Yamaha rider Lachlan Turner increased her lead in the series standings by winning round three at Thunder Valley Raceway in Lakewood, Colorado, June 7. Due to heavy rains on Thursday and Friday, the WMX class was limited to one moto at the end of Saturday’s program.

Needless to say, after practice, qualifying, and four motos with the pros, the Lakewood course was rough, but the ladies handled it well.
Australia’s Quad Lock Honda rider Charli Cannon, who was by far the fastest in practice, secured the holeshot in the do-or-die single-moto format, closely followed by Turner and Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green’s Kyleigh Stallings.
SLR Honda’s Mikayla Nielsen, the winner of round one, was in fourth place.
After one lap, there was less than a second between the battle for first place between Cannon, who was riding with a broken clutch finger, and Turner. Similarly, there was less than a second gap between Stallings and Nielsen, who were contending for third place.
Turner eventually got around Cannon for the lead.

Nielsen moved into third on lap three, passing Stallings on the inside of one of the steep downhill turns. Meanwhile, Turner had established a nine-second lead over Cannon by the final lap of the race, while Yamaha’s Jordan Jarvis took advantage of a mishap between Nielsen and Stallings, which caused the two riders to tangle and fall on the final lap, allowing Yamaha’s Jordan Jarvis to capitalize and round out the podium.

Jamie Astudillo (KTM) slipped in between Nielsen and Stallings to grab fifth.
“I love the rough track, the rougher the better,” said Turner. “But they did smooth out the track a lot before our race. It was fun to battle with Charli. It was amazing.”
The WMX series will now be on a break until the final three rounds of Pro Motocross, which will also be the final three rounds of the six-round WMX Championship.
