Honda HRC’s Tim Gajser continued his winning ways in Italy, where he traded moto wins with Romain Febvre to win round two of the Internazionali d’Italia Championship at Mantova on February 11.
Gajser led from start to finish in moto one, with his Honda HRC teammate Ruben Fernandez finishing second. Kawasaki’s Febvre was third. Jeremy Seewer (Kawasaki) was fourth.
In moto two, Gajser had to do some work. He had a difficult first lap but came up through the pack to take second to Febvre, but that was good enough to secure the overall victory.
A 3-1 gave Febvre second overall, and a 2-4 landed Fernandez on the podium in third.
Seewer went 4-3 for fourth overall, and Alvin Ostlund (Honda) went 10-5 for fifth overall.
“Obviously, I wanted to win that second race as well, to make it a perfect four wins from four races,” said Gajser, who won both motos the previous weekend. “But I was still pleased to be able to come through the field and get close to winning before time ran out. And I still won overall, so it was a good day, and I’m glad we did these two events. Getting in some competitive races before the MXGPs start is an important step for me, and it is nice to test out this new bike in a race environment. I’m very happy with how it’s going.”
In MX2, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Liam Everts took the overall win after going 1-2.
Everts’ teammate Andrea Adamo was second overall with a 4-1.
Valerio Lata (GasGas), Simon Laengenfelder (KTM) and Oriol Oliver (KTM) completed the top five overall.
