Stacy’s Team Suzuki Teammate Jeff Fredette was a Close Runner Up
In this week’s Throwback we dial back the time machine to March of 1981 and the opening round of the AMA Two-Day Qualifier held just outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma. This photo shows Frank Stacy changing an air filter on his factory Suzuki PE250 after the first day of competition. Stacy went on to edge out his teammate Jeff Fredette to win the event by just a five-second margin. It was a golden era of off-road racing in America with multiple factory squads and big-name riders doing battle every weekend. The Two-Day Qualifier Series helped determine the riders who would compete for Team USA in the annual International Six Days Enduro.
