Ducati releases its most powerful single-cylinder motor of all time
Rennie Scaysbrook | October 27, 2023
Ducati has announced it intends to produce a new single-cylinder engine for a new streetbike in 2024.
Dubbed the Superquadro Mono—Italian for Super Square Single—the new motor is essentially one-half of the 1285c V-twin ‘Superquadro’ of the 1299 Panigale, the last of Ducati’s V-twin superbikes from 2017.
The Superquadro Mono uses the same 116mm piston and with a stroke of just 62.4mm for 659cc, ensures the new single can rev to 10,250 rpm. Ducati is claiming 77.5 hp in street trim and 85 hp with the racing exhaust that will come as an aftermarket product.
The engine will use the trademark desmodromic valve actuation system, with service intervals set for 18,000 miles for valve adjustment, roughly half that of the V4 motor range.
The new machine that will house the motor will be unveiled this Thursday, November 2, and we’ll bring you all the details when it drops.
