The 2023 running of Surfercross saw the best in surf and moto come together once again for the annual crossover event that was held August 8-9 in Southern California. The two-day competition, hosted by Jeremy Albrecht, combines scores from motocross and surfing at events held at Perris Raceway on the first day and then at Trail Six in San Onofre on the second day.

After some friendly competition, Austin Neumann and Arturo Salas topped the Professional ranks, with Riley Dickerson and Taylor Pringle coming out on top in the Industry division.
In the Pro class, teams are selected by a drawing of the hat and are comprised of one surfer and one motocrosser. In the Industry class, competitors can be two of the same.
For Salas, a Baja Champion, and Neumann, their moto experience paid off on day one with a solid fifth overall. The team then finished fourth in the surf portion, giving them the lowest combined score of the 30 teams.
“I’m beyond stoked,” said Salas. “This was my first time doing this event, and it couldn’t have gone any better.”
Pro skater Alec Sorgente teamed up with Forrest Minchinton and took second overall after a solid third in the moto section.
Tristan Aiwohi and Rich Taylor took victory on the first day of competition and rounded out the overall Pro podium.
Reid Harper and Damien Hobgood claimed the win on the second day of surfing.
In the Industry division, the supposedly true desk jockeys battled it out for their own podium. Amateur racer Riley Dickerson and teammate Taylor Pringle used a third and an eighth to take the overall win ahead of second-placed Chris Fischetti and Jared Merrell, and third-placed Brandon Draguesku and Reese Monty.
Jack Carrigg and Curt Biegel topped the Motocross day for the Industry class, with Chad Gibson and Zane Schweitzer winning the Industry surf day. CN
