In this week’s Throwback we wind back the clock to September of 1989 and that year’s Motocross des Nations in Gaildorf, West Germany. Team USA Manager Roger DeCoster had a great team to work with that year. Jeff Ward was already part of five winning American squads coming into that year’s event and he was joined by two MX des Nations rookies in Jeff Stanton and Mike Kiedrowski. This Nate Rauba photo shows (from left to right) Kiedrowski, DeCoster, Ward and Stanton in discussion between motos. Whatever they talked about must have worked, since after wins by Ward (500cc class) and Stanton (250cc class) in the first two motos, the team was essentially out of reach for the rest of the teams in the international competition. Stanton put the icing on the cake with another win in the third moto and Team USA earned its ninth consecutive Motocross des Nations victory.
