2022 Triumph Bonneville Speed Twin First Look
Cycle News Staff | June 7, 2021
The 2022 Triumph Bonneville Speed Twin has lower emissions than the previous version and approximately 3 hp more peak power (99 hp at 7250 rpm) in addition to more power in the mid-range than the previous generation.
The responsiveness of the 1200cc twin engine has also been enhanced, thanks to a 17% reduction in inertia obtained via a new lightweight crankshaft and alternator. Triumph explains that these enable the engine to spin up faster than the previous generation and rev harder for longer, with a red line now 500rpm higher than before. In addition, the 2022 model gets new high-compression pistons, revised ports and a new cam profile.
The Bonneville Twin has new brushed stainless-steel megaphone twin upswept sports silencers and higher-spec upside-down 43mm Marzocchi front fork with cartridge damping.
Brakes are also upgraded with Brembo four-piston M50 radial monobloc front calipers and twin 320mm Brembo discs. Rear brakes are Nissin two-piston floating rear caliper with 220mm disc, and ABS comes standard.
The Speed twin is fitted with Metzeler Racetec RR tires on new cast-aluminium spoked wheels. Three riding modes are available: Rain, Road and Sport. And traction control can be turned off independently through the instrument menu.
