2021 Arlington 2 Supercross Rnd 11 Results. Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM) took a commanding win over his two toughest rivals at round 11 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series. Along with this win, he extended his points lead to 12 over Ken Roczen.
450SX
The day started off rough for points leader Webb as he took a big spill in the whoops during practice. He seemed unphased by this however, as he proceeded to lead every lap en route to a heat race victory.
The main event kicked off with the three heavy hitters neck and neck from the get go. Webb led Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki) and Ken Roczen (Honda HRC) through the holeshot stripe. The rest of the field had their work cut out for them with these three at the front.
Chase Sexton (Honda HRC) spent a brief moment in third position but went high in a bowl turn to let his teammate pass. Team tactics? We’re not sure, but anything goes with a title on the line.
Cooper led the pack through lap one with the charging duo in tow. The top three riders were all within two seconds of each other through the first few laps, mirroring lap times along the way.
Webb continued to lead but it was Tomac who held the advantage through the whoops. He continually closed the gap in this section but was never close enough to make a pass attempt.
Roczen was doing his best to stick with the leaders, but was slowly losing the wheel of Tomac as the laps wore on. A tenth here and a tenth there added up and by the seven-minute mark he was down two and a half seconds.
By the half-way point the leaders encountered lapped traffic. This didn’t seem to hold anyone up, but they did end up lapping near the up to the twelfth position.
Sexton continued to hold his own in fourth while riders like Aaron Plessinger (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) and Justin Barcia (Red Bull TLD GasGas) were forced to move their way through the field. Martin Davalos (Team Tedder KTM) had a great start tonight and spent the first half of the race in fifth place before getting passed by Plessinger and Barcia.
The GasGas rider found his flow and put classic BamBam-style passes on both Plessinger and Sexton to work his way into the fourth position.
With just four minutes left in the race, Tomac closed the gap and was right on Webb’s rear wheel. With the whoop section approaching, it seemed like he was going to strike and make a pass. His bike’s rear-wheel skipped out of the rut and he lost balance and momentum just before the tricky whoop section and allowed Webb to easily gain a two-second advantage.
This mistake solidified the race for all three riders as Roczen was too far off the back to capitalize on Tomac. Webb would go on to take the wire-to-wire win, his second in a row during the Arlington Residency. His points gap extends now to 12 over Roczen.
Barcia and Sexton rounded out the top five.
Saturday night’s podium finisher, Jason Anderson (Rockstar Husqvarna), was the victim of a poor start and finished seventh in tonight’s race.
Marvin Musquin (Red Bull KTM) did not line up tonight after suffering a crash on Saturday night. A concussion and stitches on his arm forced him out of Arlington 2.
250SX
A wild night for the 250SX started off with heat race wins for Hunter Lawrence (Honda HRC) and Cameron McAdoo (Pro Circuit Kawasaki).
A slew of new faces found their way to the front of the field during the start of the 250SX main event. Mitchell Harrison (Muc-Off Honda) took the holeshot with Jalek Swoll (Rockstar Husqvarna) and Kyle Peters (Phoenix Racing Honda) tucking in right behind. Last week’s podium finisher Hunter Lawrence settled into fourth. Title favorites Justin Cooper (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) and McAdoo were stuck back in sixth and ninth off the line.
Cooper caught the rear wheel of another rider and hit the deck on the opening lap. He remounted in 19th position.
Mitchell Harrison continued to lead, gaining valuable experience at the front of the pack. He managed the race for the first three laps.
Last week’s winner Seth Hammaker started back in eighth position and went down at the four-minute mark. This set him back in the field and he finished in 11th place.
Hunter Lawrence closed the gap to the leaders and was able to get a two-for-one pass in the final turn of the track to secure the race lead.
Cooper was still clawing his way through the field and had moved up to 12th place with ten minutes remaining in the race.
Points leader, Cameron McAdoo was looking to make up ground in the whoop section but lost control and crashed. When remounting his bike, he skipped a majority of the whoop section and entered the next lane of the track. He was docked positions and credited with a tenth-place result.
Lawrence had extended his lead to three seconds with Swoll solidly in second place. Kyle Peters had worked his way up to the rear end of Harrison and made the pass for the final podium spot with only five minutes remaining on the clock.
Garret Marchbanks (Club MX Yamaha) made his way up to fourth place with Justin Cooper in tow. There was a lot to watch tonight in the 250 class and it was tough to keep track of the class’s heavyweights.
The race finished as a night of firsts for the 250SX class with Hunter Lawrence taking his first career win along with Jalek Swoll and Kyle Peters earning their first career podiums.
With McAdoo getting penalized in tonight’s race and only earning 13 points, Hunter Lawrence took over the points lead. He leads the 250SX West series with 84 points, McAdoo is second with 83 points, and Cooper is third with 82 points. Lawrence will ride with the red plate on Saturday’s final race in Arlington.
