Throwback Thursday: Colin Edwards’ Breakthrough Win
In this week’s Throwback we look back to the 1994 AMA Superbike event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. It was a great day for Vance & Hines Yamaha. The team finished first and second with Colin Edwards (right) winning and teammate Jamie James (left) earning second. Here on the podium James had just poured cold champagne down Edwards’ back and you can see Colin’s reaction. The Mid-Ohio win also marked a breakthrough for Edwards. The Mid-Ohio win was his first AMA Superbike victory and it opened the floodgates. He ended the year as the hottest rider of the series, winning three of the final four rounds, earning him a ride with Yamaha in World Superbike the next season. Edwards would go on to win two World Superbike championships before enjoying a long and successful MotoGP career.
