Throwback Thursday: Some Fun with a Famous Cycle News T-Shirt
In this week’s Throwback, we found a classic old dusty negative shot by former Cycle News East editor Gary Van Voorhis. The mid-1970s images goes back to the days when Cycle News published both East and West editions. The AMA Grand National championship-winning trio of Jay Springsteen, Kenny Roberts and Gary Scott had a little fun with a famous Cycle News t-shirt that played up the rivalry between East and West. Both Michigander Springsteen and Ohioan Scott are wearing the famous “We don’t care how the hell they do it in California” Cycle News East t-shirts, while Californian Kenny Roberts stands in the middle. Scott was actually a Californian native too, who by this time had moved to Ohio to be more centrally located for the AMA Grand National Championship races. The only thing that might have made this photo better was if Roberts would have been wearing the “The Best Go West” shirt sold by Cycle News West.
