2018 Indianapolis 250cc Supercross Results: All signs seemed to point to a good battle between the points leaders on both coasts in the first 250cc East/West Shootout of 2018. Inside Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, the dirt is known to rut up and break down, and in conditions like that, it usually works in favor of Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha’s Aaron Plessinger and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Zach Osborne.
But nobody told that to the rest of the stacked field.

Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo (West) and Austin Forkner (East) took down the heat races, and then off the start of the main event, it was GEICO Honda’s Jeremy Martin with the holeshot, and as the racers got squeezed on the inside of the corner, Cianciarulo caught the edge of a Tuff Block and knocked it into the track, right in front of Osborne and Plessinger.
As a result, Plessinger rounded lap one in 17th, and Osborne in 21st.

Martin made it look pretty easy, controlling the race from the front for all 21 laps while Traders Racing Yamaha’s Luke Renzland moved into second.
Cianciarulo was on the move early, picking off a rider every lap to land in fourth place on the fifth go-around, but then he had to work his way by TLD/Red Bull KTM’s Jordon Smith for third, which took quite a while. But once by, he caught Renzland over the course of about five laps, then snuck by on the final lap to snatch second place. Renzland hung on for the first podium of his career, just in front of Smith.

Plessinger went to work from the back of the pack, and he passed racers by the handful for the first few laps until he got inside the top 10, then his advance slowed somewhat. Still, Plessinger hung on for fifth, and he extended his points lead over Cianciarulo’s teammate Joey Savatgy, who had a couple falls in the main event and ended up 10th.
As for Osborne, he was battling front-brake problems during his advance through the pack, and he still managed a seventh-place finish, just behind his closest title rival, Forkner. In the end, despite the bad start and brake problems, Osborne lost only one point to Forkner as the series heads for its first weekend off, then the West picks back up in Seattle a week later.
