MILLVILLE, NJ (Sept. 12, 2015) – Josh Hayes needs to apply some pressure on his young Yamaha teammate Cameron Beaubier if he’s to have any chance at winning this year’s title. He perhaps started that process Saturday by winning the pole on a wet track for Sunday’s pair of MotoAmerica Superbike races at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Joining Hayes on the front row are Yoshimura Suzuki’s Roger Hayden and RoadRace Factory Yamaha’s Jake Gagne.
Beaubier, surely being cautious in the wet, qualified fourth and will head up the second row alongside Taylor Knapp and Josh Day.
The pole was Hayes’ fourth of the season and 37th of his career.
Hayes, Hayden and Gagne were all in the 1:39 bracket on the wet circuit, with Hayes pole winning time being a 1:39.440.
“It was definitely slick out there,” Hayes said of the Superpole 2 session. “Fortunately I had a lot of experience racing here in the rain from last year’s race. If it rains tomorrow that would definitely put some pressure on Cameron, but I’m not counting on it. I’m just going to do what I can to improve my times in the dry tomorrow morning and do the best I can.”
