Motocross: AMA Announces USA MX Of Nations Team

Cycle News Staff | August 8, 2015

The AMA announced this morning that Justin Barcia, Jeremy Martin and Cooper Webb will make up this year’s all-Yamaha United States Motocross of Nations team. Barcia, on the AutoTrader.com/Toyota/JGRMX Yamaha, will compete in the 450 class, while Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha teammates Martin and Webb will compete in the MX2 (250cc) and Open (450cc-plus) classes, respectively. Webb, who has some experience racing a 450, will compete on the big bike in the Open-class division.

Red Bull KTM’s and six-time MXoN rider Ryan Dungey, the obvious first pick to represent the team this year, has chosen to sit this one out.

Both Barcia and Martin have previous MXoN experience, but this will be the first time for Webb.

Roger DeCoster will once again lead the team into battle, which will take place September 26-27 in Ernee, France.

“This year’s team includes an incredibly talented group of athletes,” the AMA’s Kevin Crowther said. “Although the French team will be tough competition on their home turf, our riders are more than capable of capturing the world championship under the expert coaching of Roger DeCoster. Without a doubt, Justin, Jeremy and Cooper will put forth a world-class effort to reclaim the top step of the podium for America.”

Team USA last won the ‘Nations in 2011 in France with Dungey, Blake Baggett and Ryan Villopoto.
