MONTEREY, CA, JULY 18—Monster Energy Graves Yamaha’s Josh Hayes stayed on top of the Superbike class and will start from pole position for tomorrow’s MotoAmerica Superbike/Superstock 1000 doubleheader at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
His teammate Cameron Beaubier led early in the Superpole session, but crashed near the halfway mark and had to jump on his back up bike to try and take the top spot back at his home race. Hayes’ 1:24.538 was unbeatable and Beaubier had to settle for recovering the second spot. Yoshimura Suzuki’s Roger Hayden, also in the 1:24s, joins the factory Yamahas on the front row of the grid.
In fourth was Hayden’s rookie teammate Jake Lewis ahead of Superstock points leader, Jake Gagne on the Road Race Factory Yamaha. Fellow Superstock racer Sheridan Morais put his HSBK Racing Aprilia in sixth ahead of Superbike racer Chris Fillmore on the HMC KTM.
Series newcomer Daniel Rivas put his Superstock Allende Racing BMW in eighth ahead of TTR Honda’s Danny Eslick. Rounding out the top 10 was Yamalube/Westby Racing’s Josh Day.
The Superstock 600 and KTM RC 390 Cup classes also finished their qualifying sessions earlier this morning, with the Wheels In Motion/Motorsport.com/Meen Yamaha’s Joe Roberts taking pole in Superstock 600 and Xavier Zayat in the KTM RC 390 Cup.
