JD Beach found just enough speed on the final lap to be able to hold off a determined pair of Josh Herrin and Bobby Fong. Beach crossed the line 0.504 seconds ahead of Herrin. Fong was right there in third. It gave Beach a sweep of the Barber Supersport races and marked his fifth win of the season. That also pushed Beach’s lead in the series over Herrin to 10 points.

Fong broke out to an early lead over Herrin, Gerloff and Beach.

On lap four Beach had a spectacular save when his bike flicked him out of the saddle. On lap five Tomas Puerta made contact and knocked his teammate Cameron Petersen off the track.

On lap nine Beach charged into the lead with a late-braking move on Fong. Herrin followed him, but the leading trio (having dropped Gerloff) stayed together.

For several laps Beach and Herrin traded the lead in turn five, with Herrin going in deep, but Beach moving back underneath to repass. Fong was there to take advantage of any opportunity that presented itself. But Beach was sure and steady and actually opened up a slight gap on the final lap to secure the win.

Gerloff was a distance fourth, followed by Suzuki rider David Anthony.

“It’s been a great weekend,” Beach said. “I heard something Marc Marquez said and it’s true – we lose as a team and we win as a team. I’m grateful to be up here again.”
