Aruba.it Racing Ducati’s Davide Giugliano was the popular winner of the Imola Superpole contest, securing the best possible starting place for Sunday’s 19-lap races.
On his first weekend back in action for three months Giugliano set a best of 1:46.382 and held off the best efforts of Kawasaki Racing Team’s Tom Sykes and Jonathan Rea.
Giugliano’s teammate Chaz Davies attacked to take the lead with a few minutes to go before being overhauled by the final top three.
Also on the second row of the grid are Red Devils Roma Aprilia’s Leon Haslam—who fell five minutes into Superpole 2, but got to the pits for repairs—and his teammate Jordi Torres.
Barni Racing Ducati’s Leandro Mercado scored well in seventh place on his privateer Ducati. BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team’s Ayrton Badovini was the top BMW rider as ever, in eighth place.
In Superpole 1 MV Agusta Reparto Corse’s Leon Camier resorted to a qualifying tire to get into Superpole 2, but made it, along with Michael van Der Mark on the Pata Honda. VDM finished ninth and Camier 12th.
Pedercini Kawasaki’s David Salom placed tenth and Alex Lowes on the Voltcom Crescent Suzuki 11th.
