The 2016 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, will be heading to two new venues with the announcement of University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona and Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts being added to the series. The Gillette Stadium, located approximately 20 miles from Boston, will be held one week after the MetLife Stadium round in New Jersey in what is an expansion of the East Coast racing program.
“In 2016, we’re continuing the strong start of the Monster Energy Supercross season on the West Coast and expanding our audience by bringing this thrilling event to more East Coast markets,” said Juliette Feld, executive vice president, Feld Entertainment.
The Canadian round of the series will also return, with the Rogers Centre hosting the championship on March 12.
“Going to new venues like Gillette Stadium and University of Phoenix Stadium is always exciting for us,” said Ryan Dungey, recently crowned 2015 Monster Energy Supercross Champion. “Bringing the championship to new markets and fans will only help grow the sport, and I look forward to meeting the fans at the races in 2016.”
The season will start with the traditional Angel Stadium curtain raiser on January 9 and conclude at Las Vegas’ San Boyd Stadium on May 7.
