Dec. 1, 2014 — With today’s announcement that the Daytona 200 would still run in 2015 using under American SportBike Racing Association sanctioning, the question of factory participation was one of the first things on the minds of racing fans.
The answer at this early date seems to be unlikely.
A Yoshimura Suzuki spokesperson said today they won’t be participating in the 200.
“We’re putting our focus in running in the MotoAmerica Series,” said Yoshimura team coordinator Rich Doan.
Yamaha was non-committal at this point.
Yamaha’s racing manager Keith McCarty was reached for comment, but said since they just heard the announcement that a definite decision hasn’t been made yet. “It’s news to us so we have to talk about it,” McCarty said. “We have no plan at this time.”
McCarty gave no timeline on when Yamaha might make a decision on whether of not it would participate, saying only that they would probably know sometime next week.
Emails were sent to several other teams and so far there has been no response.
