Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey again gained significant ground on 450-class points leader Ken Roczen in the 2014 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. The KTM teammates came into the Unadilla round separated by 14 points, but Dungey managed to cut that gap in half after going 1-2 to claim the overall victory.
In the first moto, Dungey pretty much led from start to finish, while Roczen held down second the whole way.
Roczen couldn’t find the extra speed at the end he needed to catch Dungey, who crossed the finish line eight seconds ahead of the young German rider. It was another strong and solid performance by Dungey who has momentum on his side with two rounds—Crawfordsville (Indiana) and Salt Lake—left in the series.
GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac finished a distant third in the moto with room to spare over Honda Muscle Milk’s Trey Canard.
Andrew Short, on the BTO Sports KTM, rounded out the top five.

The second moto saw Tomac get out to a fast start, but so did Canard. The two Honda riders put on a great show for the Unadilla crowd as they battled back and forth before Canard took charge and started to pull away from Tomac.
Dungey, who was watching all of the action from behind in third, eventually got by Tomac for second and tried reeling in Canard. He got close but ran out of time, as Canard claimed his first moto win of the year.
As for Roczen, the points leader settled into fourth but couldn’t catch Tomac at the end, losing four more points to Dungey in the championship.
In the end, Dungey claimed the overall with a 1-2, Canard second with a 4-1 and Tomac third with a 3-3. Roczen ended up fourth overall with a 2-4, while Toyota/JGRMX Yamaha’s Justin Brayton rounded out the top five overall with a 6-7.
