Supercross: JGRMX Riders Brayton And Grant To Miss Seattle

Justin Brayton will miss this weekend’s race in Seattle due to injuries suffered at the previous two rounds of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series. PHOTOGRAPHY BY SHAN MOORE

Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX will go into this weekend’s round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series in Seattle’s CenturyLink Field with a pair of substitute riders after the team’s main riders Justin Brayton and Josh Grant suffered injuries this past weekend that will hold them out of Saturday’s race.

Brayton suffered a broken bone in his foot during in his heat race two weeks ago in St. Louis, but still managed to qualify for the main event where he finished a valiant 10th, in spite of the injury. This past weekend in Houston, however, Brayton went down in practice and injured his hand and knee, which kept him from riding the evening program.

Up until that point, Brayton had started 44-straight main events, which was a series record.

Grant was also injured in St. Louis during a heat race crash, and then in Houston, the California rider was hit in the back by a flying bike when

two riders collided behind him. Grant was badly shaken up and unable to continue.

Both Brayton and Grant were thoroughly evaluated this week and the conclusion of the riders and team is that the cumulative effect of these injuries on both Brayton and Grant warrants a rest and recovery period for proper healing and reduction from further harm.

This weekend, Phillip Nicoletti, who is a member of the Toyota/Yamaha/JGRMX Team with support from St. Lawrence Radiology and N-FAB will race in Seattle in place of Brayton, while

Vince Friese, who races for The Factory Metal Works Team in the 250SX East Championship Series, will sub for Grant. In the meantime, Brayton and Grant’s status will be continuously evaluated and they will return to racing as soon as safely possible.
