There were few surprises at the opening round of the Kenda AMA National Enduro Series, with Charlie Mullins taking a dominating win on the tight and sandy Sandlapper course, in Pelion, South Carolina. The FMF/KTM rider came into the series having won eight rounds of last year’s 10-round series, and it looks as though he’s picking up right where he left off.

Mullins will now carry that momentum into round two of the 2014 series in Blackwell, Texas, where he’ll try to extend his points lead in the series standings at the Concho National Enduro, and take home a big chunk of the $3000 Pro Purse offered by Enduro Engineering.

The Concho Enduro is held at a unique venue in that its located on a picturesque 5000-acre private exotic animal ranch, where you can see long horn sheep, Giraffe, Bison, and other rare animals, wandering around the ranch.

As far as the racing goes, the course will be fast, dry and slick, and last year’s winner Andrew DeLong will be looking to repeat that performance on his new factory Husqvarna, although he will have to deal with Mullins and a few other go-fasters like

Round One runner-up Jesse Groemm, who claimed a test win on his Maxxis/KLIM/DirtWise KTM at the Sandlapper.

You can’t rule out Steward Baylor, either, the FMF/KTM rider spent all of last year recovering from a wrist injury but still finished third in South Carolina in his first big race back. In Texas, he’ll be looking to improve on that finsh. Meanwhile, eight-time National Enduro Champ Mike Lafferty will be gunning for a top spot as well, and was running a solid third at the series opener when he lost track of the course and gave up considerable time finding his way. The FMF/KTM rider ended the day in fourth and you can be sure “Junior” will settle for nothing less than a podium in Texas.

AirGroup Racing’s Nick Fahringer, who was second overall in last year’s series, will be looking to get back on the podium after barely missing it in South Carolina. Last year, Fahringer logged eight podiums and is one of the most consistent of the top 10.

Brad Bakken is a Virginia Hare Scrambles champ and excels on fast courses, so look for the Am Pro Yamaha rider to be near the top of the results on his YZ250F.

For all you AA riders, don’t forget about the Rekluse Expert-AA class, which pays $100 for first, $75 for second and $50 for third. Plus, the Expert-AA Class Champion will earn $1000 from Rekluse, if he runs Rekluse Clutch Components. Be sure to check out the Rekluse website for exact details.

There will be demo rides available on the new Sherco models and for those wanting to camp on site, there are limited water and electrical hook-ups available for campers and the club has food available on site. The closest airport is Abilene, plenty of hotels & restaurants In Sweetwater.

Remember that there are thorn trees in areas around the course, so run a Bib Mousse if you have one. For race needs, Kenda Tires and BonJoes will have vendors on site.
