Garrahan Wins National Enduro

Mark Kariya | February 26, 2007

After sitting out most of last year recovering from a broken leg suffered in round one of the AMA National Hare Scrambles Series, Brian Garrahan proved he’s now ready to go racing again by winning the muddy and extremely tough 35th annual Quicksilver National Enduro, round two of the AMA/FMF Racing National Enduro Series.

“I felt best in the fast stuff [on the first loop],” the Valli Construction/Maxxis/Moose YZ250 racer said. “Basically, the first loop was good [for me] and the second loop was just hard. You had to be consistent because your vision was so bad with it snowing and rainy and muddy; I just tried to not make mistakes and ride a smooth and consistent pace.”

Defending series champ and round one winner Russell Bobbitt ended up second on his Michelin/FMF/TLD 250 XC. He dropped one point more than Garrahan’s 51, but the Red Bull KTM star retains the series points lead with 55 points over his teammate and seven-time champ Mike Lafferty’s 46. Lafferty was third for the day on his Michelin/FMF/Arai 450 XC after getting hung up in bottlenecks and dropping 57. Garrahan moved into third in series points with 43.

Last year’s Quicksilver winner, Patrick Garrahan, finished fourth on his Maxxis/Motion Pro/Hlebo Suspension 525 XC with 58 points, while Carhartt KTM’s Stephen Edmondson rounded out the top five on his Ford/Maxxis/Motul 250 XC. In the series points, however, Edmondson is fourth ahead of Garrahan, 34-33.

Less than three dozen of the approximately 400 racers (the BLM limit) finished the two-loop, 75-mile race at the Clear Creek Management Area near Coalinga, California, before houring out due mostly to the muddy conditions which led to huge bottlenecks in a couple spots.
