Short Wins East/West Shootout

Team Honda’s Andrew Short emerged as the top gun of the Dave Coombs Sr. East/West Lites Shootout at the Las Vegas Supercross. But it was a hard-fought battle, at least for a while.

At the start, it was Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto and Red Bull KTM’s Mike Alessi fighting for the holeshot that ended up leaving Villopoto on the ground. Alessi found his way into the lead, but by the third lap, both Short and East Coast Champion Davi Millsaps had passed him and engaged in a dual for the lead. The two Honda riders battled for many laps until Millsaps went down in the whoops, handing Short a huge lead. Short went on to take the win with room to breath over Alessi, which was the KTM’s best finish of the year.

Finishing fourth was SoBe/Samsung Mobile/Honda’s Tommy Hahn, followed by Hahn’s teammate Josh Grant, WBR’s Ryan Morais and Villopoto, who climbed all the way up to sixth after his first-lap get-off.

Seventh place went to Darcy Lange, while Robert Kiniry, Kyle Partridge and Justin Brayton rounded out the top 10.

For Short, this was his second Shootout victory of his career. He also won it in 2003.
