The following is a press release from Troy Lee Designs concerning this year’s A Day in the Dirt:

TROY LEE DESIGNS ANNOUNCES DATES FOR FIFTH ANNUAL A DAY IN THE DIRT

The Ultimate Motocross Weekend Event

On Friday, November 29th, 2002, (the day after Thanksgiving) the fifth annual A Day in the Dirt Weekend Extravaganza commences when world-class stuntmen, stuntwomen, producers, directors, musicians, actors, extreme-sports athletes, auto racers and supercross/motocross stars come together for three days of action-packed motorcycle racing!

The event, presented by Troy Lee Designs and produced by professional Hollywood stuntmen Kenny Alexander and Jimmy Roberts, sets out to bring back a tradition born in the late ‘50s and early ‘60s, when motorcycle-loving moviemakers and stuntmen created the Westlake GP, a grand prix-style motorcycle race that was held on an actual working movie set.

This year, A DAY IN THE DIRT continues to celebrate the long-time love affair Hollywood has had with motorcycles with races such as the popular Stunt/Celebrity GP, a grand prix-style motocross race featuring two-man teams comprised of stuntmen, celebrities and extreme-sports stars; the Moto-A-Gogo, pairing two-man teams of like racers (two extreme athletes, two auto racers, etc.); the Women’s Motocross League GP, an all-female (stuntwomen, extreme-sports athletes, etc.) motocross race; the Film Industry GP, a race open to anyone in the entertainment/film industry; and the Coup de Grace, a two-and-a-half-hour survival race complete with Hollywood special effects (rain, wind, smoke, etc.)!

Just 30 miles north of Hollywood, Los Angeles County Raceway serves as the backdrop for the weekend phenomenon with a virtual city rising from the dirt overnight. A two and a half mile dirt track serves as the epicenter of the weekend’s activities complete with a Trackside Cafe and Red Bull Lounge for spectators, mini GP races for the kids, a Vet GP open to anyone 30 or over who wants to race, and helicopter rides.

Past events have brought together more than 800 riders, more than 10,000 spectators, sports superstars like seven-time AMA Supercross champ Jeremy McGrath, and Paul Tracy the winningest CART racer ever, as well as an array of Hollywood celebrities such as Academy Award winner Kathy Bates, Mark Paul Gosselaar (NYPD Blue), Luke Perry and Matt LeBlanc (Friends). The stunt associations participating in the event represent an impressive body of work that includes Terminator 2, all the Lethal Weapon properties, The Rock, True Lies, Mission Impossible, The Patriot, Pearl Harbor, The Last Castle, The Fast and the Furious, Behind Enemy Lines, and I Spy, as well as the upcoming Charlie’s Angels II and matrix Reloaded.

Past Hollywood motorcycle events like the Hopetown Grand Prix, held at Bob Hope’s ranch, and the annual Viewfinders Grand Prix not only laid the groundwork for this unique tradition but helped with the culmination of a new fundraising effort. A portion of the proceeds from a A Day in the Dirt go to the Steve McQueen Memorial Fund for Boys Republic, and friends of stuntman Shane Dixon raise funds for the Palliative Care Unit at UCLA in his memory.

Taking place Thanksgiving weekend, November 29th through December 1st, A Day in the Dirt is brought to you by BC Ethic and N-Style. The weekend is hosted by the Stuntmen’s Association, Stunts Unlimited, International Stunt Association, Stuntwomen’s Association of Motion Pictures, United Stuntwomen’s Association, and Brand X Action Specialists. Corporate sponsors include Hollywood Rental Production Services, Buster Lighting Design, Fender Guitars, White Brothers, Kawasaki, Alpinestars, Shoei, ZLT, Setwear Products and event receptions are being hosted by Red Bull.

Last year’s event served as the backdrop for a documentary film produced by TLD Entertainment (Troy Lee Designs) and Dirty Racing, Inc. A Day in the Dirt, The Movie, which was beautifully shot in Hi-Def format, is now available for purchase at www.troyleedesigns.com, or by phoning 909-371-5219.

This wonderful weekend event is open to the public with three-day spectator tickets available for $25.00. For information on entering any of the races, for current entry fees or to download an entry form, please log on to www.adayinthedirt.com, or call 661/263-8722 for further race information.
