Yamaha’s David Vuillemin and Troy Lee Designs/Honda-backed Steve Lamson came away with the overall wins at the 33rd running of the Hangtown National Motocross at the Prairie City SVRA Park in Sacramento, California.
With temperatures hovering around 100 degrees, Vuillemin out-lasted first-moto winner Ricky Carmichael and second-moto winner Kevin Windham to claim the overall victory in the 250cc National class with a pair of second-place finishes.
Carmichael, who dominated the first moto, was leading the second moto before the heat and long motos got the best of him. The Kawasaki rider slipped back to fourth, where he would finish behind winner Windham, Vuillemin and Honda’s Sebastien Tortelli.
In the first moto, Carmichael led the entire way, finishing out the race ahead of Vuillemin, Tortelli and Windham, on the factory-backed Honda.
Vuillemin nabbed the overall with a 2-2, followed by Windham with a 4-1, Carmichael with a 1-4 and Tortelli with a 3-3.
In the 125cc class, local favorite Steve Lamson (Hon) came from way back in the pack to finish an impressive third behind winner Stephane Roncada and Casey Johnson in the first moto, then capped off the day with another come-from-behind ride, this time resulting in a win ahead of Travis Pastrana (who crashed several times in the first moto and pulled out), Nathan Ramsey and Tallon Vohland.
Lamson’s 3-1 was more than good enough for the overall, followed by Vohland’s 4-4, Ronacada’s 1-8 and Danny Smith’s 6-7.
