Reigning TrialGP Champion Toni Bou (Repsol Honda Team/Montesa) extended his season total to 16 consecutive race victories and increased his series lead to 90 points by dominating days one and two of the TrialGP of Great Britain, round four of the 2026 Hertz FIM Trial World Championship.
With the recent heatwave giving way to much less temperate conditions as the seven-round series reached the halfway point, the sections grouped around the Anglesey headland proved to be extremely technical. There was almost too much traction in some places on the sharp, coastline rocks and virtually none to be found in others as the day progressed.
Bou, however, is the master of finding grip, and with his pinpoint precision, the sublime Spaniard topped Friday’s Super Test to determine starting positions before tightening his grip on the title with a pair of commanding performances on Saturday.
It was his compatriot Jaime Busto (Beta) who pushed him hardest in both races, and he kept the pressure on in race one all the way to section eight. With the leading pair locked together on six after both needed a single dab on section two before the entire field took a maximum at section four, Bou moved into a clear lead with a clean to Busto’s two, and he ended the race with an 11-mark winning margin.
Roared on by the passionate crowd, Britain’s Harry Hemingway (Beta), in his debut season in the premier class, put in an inspired performance to post a career-best third in the opening race after losing a tie-break with Busto. There was then a four-mark gap to Spain’s Gabriel Marcelli (Montesa) who fought through the pain of a fractured finger to take fourth on a tie-break from Italian veteran Matteo Grattarola (Beta) with home hero Jack Peace (Sherco) completing the top six.
After getting race two underway with victory in Super Pole, Bou seized an immediate lead alongside Grattarola with a clean in the Final’s opening section before moving clear with a dab in the following hazard where Busto was the only other rider to escape without a maximum.
Despite a tight schedule that saw the whole field incur time penalties, Bou kept his cool and did not pick up a single five as he maintained control into the Super Final stage and ran away as winner on 12 marks lost, half the total collected by Busto, who took second on a tie-break with Grattarola.
Back in seventh in the opening race, Spain’s Miquel Gelabert (Honda), riding the sole electric machine in the class, improved to fourth on a total of 29, two ahead of Peace, with Marcelli clearly in pain as he slipped to sixth on 35, three ahead of a disappointed Hemingway.
On Sunday, the first serious test came at section four that stopped the full TrialGP field in yesterday’s opening race, and not a lot had changed this time around with everyone except Grattarola taking a maximum. The veteran Italian bent the laws of physics to escape with an incredible single mark, but by this point he had already taken five on section two, so rather than hand him the lead, his heroics only brought him back into contention.
From here Bou stayed feet-up until section 10, where he needed a two that almost put him within striking distance of Marcelli, but not even a maximum on the final section, where only Marcelli saw the end cards in the opening race, could prevent Bou from taking victory on 13.
Struggling with a fractured finger, Marcelli claimed second on 15, four clear of Busto, with Grattarola a further five off the pace as Hemingway slotted into fifth on 30 after winning a tie-break with Gelabert and Peace.
After topping Super Pole to decide the starting order for the Final, Bou locked horns with Busto and Marcelli as the Spanish trio distanced themselves from the chasing pack, and it was Busto who seized the initial advantage with a one on section four that once again took maximums from the rest of the field.
Tied on five with Busto heading into the Super Final stage with Marcelli on seven, Bou added just one more mark to his score to win by two marks from Busto with Marcelli third on 10 before an 11-mark gap to Hemingway in fourth, who in turn was just one ahead of Gelabert. CN
