Atypical of this time of year, a flurry of heat and wind in the week leading up to race day left Glen Helen Raceway looking desolate and dry for the annual 3Bros 6-Hours of Glen Helen on March 7. Past champions Tyler Nicholson and Thomas Dunn piloted a KTM 450 XC-F to the overall victory with 25 laps, besting the 117 teams entered.

Racers were treated to a faster course that included high-speed ridge roads, sand washes, the off-road truck track, and the iconic motocross tracks around the Glen Helen facility, although high winds on race day left much of the course dry and dusty despite the track crew’s massive effort to put water down.
At the drop of the flag, the Open Pro and Expert riders rushed into the Talladega first turn, with Trevor Hunter leading the charge on his DirtBikeTest.com Yamaha YZ450FX. Through the first few corners, the riders jockeyed for position with Shane O’Dor and his CRF450X leading the pack onto the ridgeline.
Just a few turns into the dusty ridgeline section, Hunter made the pass back for the lead and used the dust to his advantage in building a small gap early on O’Dor, eventual winner Nicholson, and the rest of the teams in tow. By the end of the lap, the top three were spread out in 10-second intervals, with Nick Stover on a GasGas 300 wheel-to-wheel behind Nicholson in fourth.
With two laps completed, Hunter pulled into the pits, putting O’Dor at the front of the pack. Nicholson bumped up to second on track, 20 seconds behind, with Stover still on his rear wheel in third. With so many racers and a 14-15-minute lap time for the fastest racers, lappers were abundant and came as quickly as the third lap, making dust and navigating the lapped traffic a key part of the race for the final five and a half hours.

O’Dor led through the first hour of the race before Nicholson’s team passed into the lead, where they’d hold the lead position to the checkers. Riding a smooth and comfortable pace in the treacherous conditions that were on tap at Glen Helen, Nicholson and Dunn navigated the dust, slippery hard base, and lapped traffic the best to claim the overall and Open AA win by three and a half minutes over Shane O’Dor’s Open Intermediate team. Behind O’Dor, Stover’s Reezen Racing GasGas team finished third overall and second Open Intermediate, followed by Troy Armstrong (first 30+ Expert) and Max Lieberman, rounding out the top five overall.
There were quite a few brave racers who endured the heat and wind on race day, but 48 of them braved the trying conditions solo in the Ironman class. The toughest of them all was TJ Durst who completed 23 laps in six hours to finish 11th overall. Maddy Weber raced her KTM 250 to second in the Ironman class with 22 laps and finished 20th overall. Oskar Kristjansson rounded out the Ironman podium with 21 laps and a 22nd overall finish to boot.
In the Minis, Bad Larry Jr’s team won the 85cc Mini class, finishing with 17 laps in 35th overall. Aubree Mitchell’s team won the 65cc class with 10 laps to their credit.
Todd Davis and the DirtBikeTest.com Triumph team won the 50+ Expert division and finished eighth overall. Other notable results include Nick Comouche and team winning the 30+ Novice/Beginner class, Dirt Bike Magazine’s Ron Lawson winning the 60+ class, and Will Dutton winning the family class. CN
