Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, hosted the 10th annual Boost Mobile AUSX Open. The event also served as round five of the Australian Supercross Championship and attracted top competitors like home country heroes Jett and Hunter Lawrence. Jett won both SX1 main events and took overall victory in front of 30,000 fans, while Cole Thompson claimed the victory in SX2.

Jett Lawrence never put a wheel wrong during his time Down Under. The Australian superstar set the pace during his Superpole lap and qualified first going into the two finals. In the first main event, Lawrence got out front early and quickly sprinted away from the rest of the field to win by more than nine seconds in the 10-lap race. He then repeated in race two to claim a perfect 1-1 sweep of the night’s overall win. This marks Lawrence’s first AUSX Open win in three attempts.
“To finally get it on my third attempt was unreal,” said Lawrence. “I’m super stoked to do it in front of the Aussie crowd. I’ve been here three times and hadn’t been able to get a win until now. Third time’s the charm, thankfully. The atmosphere was electric, and it honestly made the night feel special. These are the kinds of core memories I’ll carry throughout my career. It was awesome.”
Dean Wilson took second overall with 2-3 finishes. Wilson came into the night leading the points in the Australian SX1 division, and a finish just behind the “Wild Card” Lawrence proved just as good as a win. With two podiums on the night, he further strengthened his hold on the championship lead with one round remaining.
“P2 in Melbourne,” Wilson said. “It was a pleasure to share the podium with these legends [Jett and Hunter]. Doesn’t happen very often. Thank you everyone for the support and love all day.”

Hunter Lawrence rounded out the podium in third overall. The older Lawrence brother certainly had the pace, but a bad start in race one hindered his night. He fought through the field to finish fifth in race one but rebounded with a strong second to finish off the night. After battling with Aussie veteran Matt Moss for nearly the entire night, Hunter earned the tiebreaker with the better result in race two.
Moss and Dylan Wills completed the top five.
SX2 points leader Lux Turner crashed out of the night during qualifying, which opened the door for a new face to take the win. Kawasaki’s Cole Thompson kicked the night off with a win after holding his ground at the front of the field. A win in race one gave him an early advantage, and a third in the final race proved to be enough for the night’s overall victory.

Defending SX2 champion Shane McElrath finished second overall with 4-1 results. Poor starts also hindered his night early on, but the Quad Lock Honda rider showed why he’s number one in the final main event. A crucial holeshot allowed him to get out of the chaos and ride away with the win.
Third overall went to Yamaha rider Ryder Kingsford, whose 3-2 scores moved him into the championship points lead.CN
