The Motorcycle Industry Council says that California Senate Bill 682 will exempt youth off-highway vehicles and their replacement parts, as well as motorcycles eligible for special transportation identification, from the state’s PFAS ban until January 1, 2032.

The following is a press release from the MIC…
After sustained advocacy by the Motorcycle Industry Council, Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association, and Specialty Vehicle Institute of America, California Senate Bill 682 will exempt youth off-highway vehicles and their replacement parts, as well as motorcycles eligible for special transportation identification, from the state’s PFAS ban until January 1, 2032.
“Securing this extension took months of coordinated effort,” said Rachel McCarthy, Manager of State Affairs in the Government Relations Office. “The advocacy from our members and the powersports community played a critical role in ensuring youth OHVs remain available in California through at least 2032, and we appreciate the hundreds of individuals who weighed in with their elected officials.”
Trump Appeals Tariff Ruling to Supreme Court; Steel and Aluminum Duties to Continue
Tariff Appeals Update:
President Donald Trump has appealed to the Supreme Court to overturn a recent federal court decision that struck down his administration’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to impose broad tariffs. The IEEPA tariffs remain in effect for now, pending the outcome of the appeal, which the administration is seeking to expedite.
According to the Court’s new schedule, the Department of Justice’s first briefs are due September 19, with challenger responses due October 20 and a final reply from the DOJ on October 30. Oral arguments are set for the first week of November.
Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum – recently expanded to cover hundreds of additional product categories – are unaffected by this legal action and continue to impact the powersports industry. These duties will raise costs across the supply chain, affecting manufacturers, dealers, and consumers.
The Motorcycle Industry Council is leading an advocacy campaign to ensure policymakers understand how these tariffs are impacting every segment of the nearly $51 billion powersports industry.
To make the strongest possible case, we’re gathering data from companies across the industry on the specific effects of these tariffs. All responses will be aggregated and used to help inform our outreach to lawmakers and the administration.
