Sunday MotoGP Race

Despite a decent enough launch from pole position, Marc won the Marquez battle into Turn 1 to earn an early lead from P3 on the grid, as Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) got another lightning launch from the middle of the second row to grab P3. Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) was P4, with Bastianini P5 as two Italians then fell out of contention at Turn 1 on Lap 2.

Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing), up the inside of Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team), made small contact with his VR46 Academy stablemate and ultimately lost control and slid out. Trying to avoid Bezzecchi, Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) then locked the front end of his GP25, and that caused the #49 to crash moments after too. Both riders were OK, but it was podium hopes over for the duo.

Alex Marquez rode the race of his career at home, beating his brother Marc straight up for his second MotoGP victory.

At the front, a change for the lead on Lap 4. Alex Marquez made a classic Turn 1 move stick on the #93, and now, Marc Marquez had Acosta and Bastianini looking to attack. At this stage, Quartararo was busy defending P5 from Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol) and compatriot Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR), the trio were a second behind the top four on Lap 6 of 24.

On Lap 7, Brad Binder’s (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) weekend ended at Turn 7 as the South African crashed from P10, one place behind a fast-starting Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team). From P22 on the grid, Pecco was up to P9 and just over three seconds away from the lead, and a lap later, the double MotoGP World Champion was past Ai Ogura (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) and lapping in P8 – a great recovery ride so far.

By the time we’d clicked onto Lap 10, the top four were 2.1s up the road from the fight for fifth, which was now being led by Zarco. And the rider ahead of the HRC star was now Acosta, because Bastianini made a move on his KTM buddy to climb into P3. The gap to Marc Marquez was 0.8s, so what did ‘The Beast’ have up his sleeve in the victory chase?

2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results: The MotoGP field arrives in Barcelona much later than normal this year as they all try to stop Mr. Marquez.
Marc Marquez holds off Acosta in the early stages. The latter would fade with the soft compound rear tire.

Zarco’s great outing then came to a premature end at the tricky Turn 10 on Lap 11, so that now meant Marini was promoted into the top five, 3.4s away from Acosta’s rear Michelin soft tyre. At the front, Alex Marquez continued to lead by 0.5s, but it was Bastianini who was the fastest rider on circuit now – the Italian had a couple of tenths in his back pocket at this stage of the Grand Prix.

On Lap 14, Acosta lost the best part of a second to the top three and now sat well over a second behind the podium fight. Was that soft rear tyre starting to cry no more? It appeared so. Acosta quickly dropped to three seconds adrift as Alex Marquez, Marc Marquez and Bastianini continued to race in the 1:40 bracket. With one KTM now out of victory contention, was another beginning to fade? Bastianini was now struggling to keep tabs on the Marquez brothers as the top two dropped into the low 1:40s. On Lap 19 of 24, it looked like we were strapping ourselves in for an Alex vs Marc battle for Barcelona honours.

Fair play to both. They were a second faster than anyone else on track with five laps to go and on Lap 20 of 24, a couple of small mistakes came the way of Marc Marquez to hand Alex Marquez a 0.8s advantage. That was down to 0.7s a lap later, but with three to go, Alex Marquez was controlling things very well.

2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results: The MotoGP field arrives in Barcelona much later than normal this year as they all try to stop Mr. Marquez.
Luca Marini (10) ran in the top six for much of the race but faded to eighth at the flag.

Two to go. The gap? Just above a second. How’re your nerves, Alex? One more lap, and the gap had risen further to 1.3s. Surely this was redemption done after his Sprint crash? Half a lap down and no mistakes were made. Turn 10, yesterday’s nightmare spot? Done. And around the final few corners, Alex Marquez took the chequered flag 1.7s clear of Marc Marquez to win for the second time in MotoGP – and at a special venue too. Marc Marquez’s unreal victory run does come to an end, but #93 will be chuffed enough to earn P2 in front of his home fans and bring home a 1-2 for the Marquez’. Bastianini’s efforts were rewarded with his first Sunday podium for KTM, a top ride from ‘The Beast’.

Bagnaia (63) had a much better Sunday than his career-low of Saturday, coming home seventh but still 16 seconds from victory.

Acosta faded big style in the second half of the Grand Prix but the #37 held onto P4, as Quartararo won the fight for P5. Ogura enjoyed a superb last couple of laps to climb into P6, that’s the rookie’s first top six result since Thailand. Bagnaia’s comeback ended with a P7 and although that’s not the result the #63 wants on paper, from where he started, that’s a very respectable ride.

Marini’s performance was also noteworthy. P8 doesn’t tell the full tale as HRC continue to prove they’re well on their way back, as Miguel Oliveira (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP) hands Yamaha a double top 10 following the Portuguese rider’s P9 result. P10 went to reigning World Champion Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing), while Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP Team), Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol), Maverick Viñales (Red Bull KTM Tech3), Jack Miller (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP), and Fermin Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) picked up at least a point in Barcelona.

Moto2 Race

Leading every lap, commanding the Grand Prix and taking his first victory, there’s only one word that can describe Daniel Holgado’s (CFMOTO Impulse Aspar Team) Catalan GP: perfect. Blasting off from pole and making it look easy, the #27 became the ninth different winner of the season ahead of Jake Dixon (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) and super-sub Daniel Muñoz (Red Bull KTM Ajo) in a tense 21-lapper. Elsewhere, Manuel Gonzalez (LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP) extends his advantage to 38 after a disastrous Sunday for his rivals.

A lightning getaway from polesitter Holgado saw him snatch the holeshot and lead the opening laps ahead of Dixon. At Turn 4 on the opening lap, the #96’s teammate Filip Salač (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) was forced out wide and into the gravel whilst further around the corner, a fast-starting Ayumu Sasaki’s (RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP) Grand Prix was over, crashing out. Settling down on Lap 3, Holgado headed Dixon whilst Muñoz gave chase in third, continuing his impressive showing ahead of Izan Guevara (BLU CRU Pramac Yamaha Moto2) and Championship leader Gonzalez in P5.

2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results: The MotoGP field arrives in Barcelona much later than normal this year as they all try to stop Mr. Marquez.
Holgado (27) was sublime all weekend for a dominant first Moto2 win.

At the start of Lap 6, Muñoz’s charge continued as he bounced through into second ahead of Dixon under braking for Turn 1. At half distance, Salač was taken out further behind by Jorge Navarro (KLINT Forward Factory Team) at Turn 1, whilst at Turn 7, it was a fast crash for Aron Canet (Fantic Racing Lino Sonego), dinting his title hopes with Gonzalez up in P5.  On Lap 16, Gonzalez attempted to pass Guevara at Turn 1 but went wide and thus lost the place but a lap later, made it work and secured fourth.

Back at the front, Holgado’s impressive ride continued, pulling out a 2.5s gap to Muñoz. The replacement rider was starting to come under pressure from a resurgent Dixon, just half a second between them before on the penultimate lap, the Brit took P2 at Turn 1. Further back in P12, Diogo Moreira’s (Italtrans Racing Team) weekend got worse as he was issued a Long Lap Penalty for exceeding track limits.

One Aspar rider may have taken their first win back at Balaton Park and it was the same again but for the other side of the box. A flawless ride from Holgado saw him take a lights-to-flag victory, a first in Moto2 and becoming the ninth different winner of 2025. Dixon held off Muñoz for a first podium since Germany whilst Muñoz’s is his first ever. Gonzalez extends his Championship lead with P4 ahead of Guevara who matched his season’s-best in fifth.

Celestino Vietti (Beta Tools SpeedRS Team) was next up ahead of teammate Alonso Lopez whilst David Alonso (CFMOTO Impulse Aspar Team) surged through from 25th to eighth. Collin Veijer (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Barry Baltus (Fantic Racing Lino Sonego) rounded out the top ten. Moreira’s penalty left him 14th, a blow to his title aspirations.

Moto3 Race

It’s a victory that could prove crucial come the end of the season for Angel Piqueras (FRINSA – MT Helmets – MSI) as the Spaniard wins an intense Moto3 battle in Barcelona, as the #36 cuts five points off Jose Antonio Rueda’s (Red Bull KTM Ajo) championship lead after the latter recovered from a Long Lap penalty to collect P2. Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia) may have been passed at the final corner but the Japanese star held on to pick up P3 to earn his second podium of the season.

From his debut pole position, David Almansa (Leopard Racing) held onto P1 into Turn 1 as Maximo Quiles (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) made a great start from ninth to climb into an early P4 behind Almansa, Joel Kelso (LEVEL-UP MTA) and David Muñoz (LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP), meanwhile, Piqueras lost out at the start and dropped to P6 from the front row, as the Spaniard’s title rival Rueda took his Long Lap penalty at the start of Lap 3, which dropped the #99 from P5 to P15.

2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results: The MotoGP field arrives in Barcelona much later than normal this year as they all try to stop Mr. Marquez.
Angel Piqueras (36) held on for another ultra-close Moto3 win.

After a sluggish start, Piqueras bullied his way into P3 by the end of Lap 4, with Rueda back up to P10 and well inside the lead gaggle of riders at the same point. Meanwhile, Almansa was doing a lot of the leading and by Lap 7, the #22 was still sitting at the front of the freight train – but 14 hungry Moto3 riders were swarming. And one of those was Quiles, and the Hungarian GP winner took over the race lead baton at the start of Lap 9, as Rueda stalked his way up to the top five. But Almansa, and then Piqueras, bit straight back on Quiles to demote the star rookie to P3.

And on Lap 11, Rueda swooped into the lead for the first time. Now, what was the response? Well for Quiles, Turn 1 saw the Aspar rider run wide after running in hot and that cost him time – podium contention to P14, how costly would that be?

With four laps to go, Rueda was 0.5s clear of a pack that were scrapping behind for track position. At this stage it was Almansa in P2, Piqueras in P3, Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing) in P4, Furusato in P5 and Ryusei Yamanaka (FRINSA – MT Helmets – MSI) – from the back of the grid – in P6 after Muñoz made a small error on the exit of Turn 2.

So with two laps to go, the threat of Rueda breaking clear had vanished. Piqueras was right with his title rival, as the top 10 were locked together heading onto the last lap. And it was all change at Turn 1. Piqueras grabbed the lead and Rueda was suddenly P4 behind Furusato and Almansa, as Rueda lunged at Turn 5 – but it didn’t work. Turn 10 then came but still, Piqueras fended off the threat from behind. At the final corner, after getting back into P3 earlier on in the lap, Rueda lunged Valentino Rossi style up the inside of Furusato to pinch P2 away from the Japanese rider, but it was Piqueras who secured a crucial victory ahead of the World Championship leader.

Furusato did hold onto P3 to earn his first podium finish since Qatar, while the Leopard duo of Almansa and Fernandez narrowly missed out on a top three in P4 and P5 respectively. Guido Pini (LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP) crossed the line in P6 ahead of Kelso and Muñoz, with Yamanaka and Valentin Perrone (Red Bull KTM Tech3) rounding out the top 10.

Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse) was a solid P11 on his return, while Quiles had to settle for P12 after his late mistake at Turn 1. Alvaro Carpe (Red Bull KTM Ajo), Scott Ogden (CIP Green Power) and Marcos Uriarte (LEVELUP-MTA) picked up the final points in Barcelona.

2025 Catalunya MotoGP News—Saturday

Ducati seal Constructor’s title

Ducati has won the MotoGP Constructor’s title for the sixth straight year. In an achievement that surprised absolutely no one, the brand that has won 13 of the year’s 15 races, as well as every single Sprint sealed the prize after Marc Marquez’s Saturday victory.

Asked what was the key moment behind Marc Marquez’s recent run, General Manager Gigi Dall’Igna pointed to the Aragon test, where a number of tweaks to the Catalan’s setting helped him go on a rampant seven-race winning run.

2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results: The MotoGP field arrives in Barcelona much later than normal this year as they all try to stop Mr. Marquez.
Marc Marquez helped seal Ducati the Constructors Championship for the sixth year in a row.

“During the Aragon test, we changed a little bit his setup, the setup of the bike, and now he’s really confident with the bike, really happy with the bike,” said Dall’Igna. “We use a similar or the same setup for all the the events starting from Aragon to here. For sure we we have to reconfirm the modification that we did in Aragon but he’s really happy and he’s really confident like you can see.”

Bagnaia defeated

Pecco Bagnaia had come to Barcelona full of hope. He won both of last year’s GPs here for one. And a massive setting change in Hungary had helped him feel more at home on Ducati’s problematic Desmosedici GP25.

However, his feeling was sorely lacking from the first moments of FP1. The three-time champ was a miserable 14th in the Sprint. “I was expecting, dreaming about a step after Balaton, but it was wasn’t the good way for this race track,” he said. “We are still suffering a lot. I’m behind riders that looking from behind that I can gain an advantage in some parts, in others I’m losing a lot. And riding like this is quite difficult.”

2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results: The MotoGP field arrives in Barcelona much later than normal this year as they all try to stop Mr. Marquez.
Bagnaia’s season is starting to resemble a dumpster fire rather than a championship assault.

Dall’Igna’s joy at Marquez’s success was tempered by Bagnaia’s misery. “It’s difficult to have an explanation, because the rider doesn’t perform like you expect, you know? For sure, the feeling that Pecco has at this time is not the same that he had last year? So I think this is the main reason of the lack of performance of Pecco. We are working on it. We trust in him and he trusts in us.”

Aprilia lost its edge

Considering the recent form of Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin, many were expecting Aprilia to perform well in Barcelona, a circuit where it enjoyed its first ever one-two finish in 2023.

2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results: The MotoGP field arrives in Barcelona much later than normal this year as they all try to stop Mr. Marquez.
It hasn’t worked for the Aprilias in Catalonia.

Yet both factory riders were far from the fastest all weekend long. “It was difficult to understand how the bike would perform here because it’s completely different to the one from last year,” reasoned Martin. “We improved in all the areas in a normal situation, on a track with Good grip. But here it’s like we lost the difference we used to have in the past. Maybe now with this new aero we’re losing some other areas of handling.”

“I think it’s not missing a lot. Rear grip is not fantastic. Maybe more turning needs to improve compared to other riders. But stability is super good and braking is good. stability is much better compared to test. But rear grip could be better.”

MotoGP Sprint Race

Marc Marquez’s (Ducati Lenovo Team) unbeaten run continues, but the #93 was handed a gold medal gift on Saturday afternoon at the Monster Energy Grand Prix of Catalonia as Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) crashes out of the lead while over a second clear. Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) finished the Tissot Sprint just over a second behind Marc Marquez to earn silver, while Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) earned a relatively comfortable P3 after breaking clear of a brilliant KTM battle.

2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results: The MotoGP field arrives in Barcelona much later than normal this year as they all try to stop Mr. Marquez.
Marc Marquez made it 14 out of 15 Sprint Race wins.

Alex Marquez got the launch he was searching for as Quartararo, Marc Marquez, and Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) went side-by-side into Turn 1. Acosta was on the outside of Marc Marquez as Quartararo swept inside the duo to grab P2 and tag right onto the back of Alex Marquez, leaving the Spaniards in P3 and P4.

An edge-of-your-seat opening lap then unfolded between Quartararo, Marc Marquez and Acosta. Marquez was up the inside of the Frenchman at Turn 10 but Quartararo dug his heels in and kept the inside line into Turn 12, and then Acosta fancied a piece and overtook Marquez too. Then, earning a dose of slipstream from Quartararo’s Yamaha, Marquez got the better of both into Turn 1 and despite having initially lost out, Quartararo bit back again to keep Acosta behind him.

2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results: The MotoGP field arrives in Barcelona much later than normal this year as they all try to stop Mr. Marquez.
Alex Marquez had the gold medal in his hands but decided he didn’t really want it and threw the win away.

The Sprint then settled down as Marc Marquez and Quartararo hunted down Alex Marquez, who sat 0.5s clear of his brother and 0.9s ahead of Quartararo. Acosta, out of shot, then lost a place to Di Giannantonio and then dropped back into the clutches of teammate Brad Binder and Enea Bastianini (Red Bull KTM Tech3). Remember that KTM scrap we mentioned?

At the front, Quartararo couldn’t keep tabs on Marquez duo’s pace and by Lap 6 of 12, El Diablo was 1.3s adrift of the #93. But it looked like Alex Marquez had the championship leader covered as things stood – the gap was up to 1.3s with four laps remaining.

2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results: The MotoGP field arrives in Barcelona much later than normal this year as they all try to stop Mr. Marquez.
Fabio Di Giannantonio had a stellar race in third.

However, later on that lap at the tricky Turn 10, the leader was down. Alex Marquez’s front end washed away, and that was that for the #73’s Tissot Sprint gold medal hopes. An almost certain victory vanished, and thus, the lead was Marc Marquez’s.

Heading onto the final lap, Marquez’s advantage over Quartararo was 1.298s, and he wasn’t going to give that up, was he? No, of course not. Marc Marquez clinched his 14th Sprint win of the year in dramatic fashion as Quartararo returned to the rostrum alongside Di Giannantonio, as a fierce KTM battle unfolded behind.

In that scintillating scrap, Acosta just held onto P4 ahead of Bastianini and Binder, as the trio crossed the line just 0.075s apart in the top six. Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR) ended the Sprint in P7 and beat fellow HRC star Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol) by 0.3s, with rookie Ai Ogura (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) earning the final point in P9.

MotoGP Qualifying

As is often the case these days, Q1 was a star-studded affair that included our four most recent World Champions: Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing), Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), Quartararo, and FP2 pacesetter Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol). But it was none of those names who sat in the early top two positions, because Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) and Jack Miller (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP) were quickest out of the blocks.

Mir then stepped up his pace to jump into P2, knocking Miller out of the promotion places, as Quartararo improved his time to a 1:38.417 to go P3 – 0.186s adrift of Di Giannantonio. At the end of the first run, Martin was P7, with Bagnaia in P10 – work to be done for our 2023 and 2024 title winners.

2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results2025 Catalunya MotoGP News and Results: The MotoGP field arrives in Barcelona much later than normal this year as they all try to stop Mr. Marquez.
Alex Marquez smashed it out of the park for pole at home.

It was all change at the top with three minutes to go. Raul Fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) and Miguel Oliveira (Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP) took turns at leading before Quartararo rose to P1 with a 1:37.906, a new all-time lap record, as Di Giannantonio climbed back to P2 to sit 0.139s away from the Frenchman. Now, could Bagnaia pull something out of the hat on his final lap? He needed to, because the #63 was P12. However, the best the Italian could do was hop into P11, and Martin could only manage P8. A morning to forget for both, as Quartararo and Di Giannantonio sailed into Q2.

It wasn’t an ideal start to the session for Marc Marquez after Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR) slid up the inside of the championship leader at Turn 1 after gobbling up a healthy amount of slipstream, costing the #93 his first go at it. Meanwhile, Alex Marquez was straight into the 1:37s to go P1 ahead of Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), who then improved his time a lap later despite overtaking Ai Ogura (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) around the outside at Turn 10.

Then, Quartararo grabbed P1 but his stay at the summit was short-lived because Alex Marquez set a 1:37.914 to take provisional pole back. That saw Acosta sit P3 after the initial efforts, Zarco was P4, Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) was occupying P5 ahead of Marc Marquez in P6.That, as things stood, was a rather tasty-looking grid for the Tissot Sprint and Grand Prix, but there were still five minutes of play time in Q2 to shake things up a bit. And on his first lap in the closing stages, Acosta was on it. 0.176s was the time he had in hand coming into Sector 3 and sure enough, the #37 shot to P1 with a new lap record – but it was then cancelled!

Then, after an almighty last sector, Alex Marquez landed a colossal 1:37.536 to go four tenths clear of Marc Marquez, before Quartararo responded to crawl back into P2. Acosta went again and improved his time but it was only good enough for P4, 0.074s away from the front row. That became P5 though because Morbidelli propelled his VR46 Ducati into P4, as we then turned our attention to the Marquez brothers on track together.

Through Sector 1, with Alex chasing Marc, the red corner was on target for pole but at Turn 5, a moment. And a pretty big one on the front end too. Did he save it? Of course he did. But that meant Marc Marquez’s pole position hopes were ended, meaning Alex Marquez collected a Saturday morning P1 ahead of Quartararo and Marc Marquez in front of his home crowd.

Morbidelli spearheads Row 2 ahead of Acosta and Di Giannantonio, as KTM’s Friday dominance fades a little in qualifying – but P5 will do for the Spaniard. Zarco dropped to P7 at the end of the session, with the Frenchman joined on Row 3 by top Aprilia Ogura and Enea Bastianini (Red Bull KTM Tech3). Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol) qualified P10 to sit ahead of Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) on the grid.

Moto2 Qualifying

After some impressive pace on Friday, Dani Holgado (CFMoto Impulse Aspar Team) backed it up on Saturday with a new lap record for his first pole position in Moto2™. Fellow rookie Collin Veijer (Red Bull KTM Ajo) continued his recent form too to take a first front row in the class, with the two debutants split by Jake Dixon (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) in second.

Daniel Holgado made it a first career pole in Moto2.

Aron Canet (Fantic Racing Lino Sonego) is the top qualifier of the top three in the standings but down in P7 after penalties elsewhere – with Championship leader Manuel Gonzalez (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP) qualifying P12 and starting P10, one place ahead of Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team).

Albert Arenas (Italjet Gresini Moto2) came from Q1 and would have headed Row 2, alongside Barry Baltus (Fantic Racing Lino Sonego) in P5, but nine-place grid penalties for both for slow sectors mean its the impressive Daniel Muñoz in fourth, as he continues to sub for Deniz Öncü at Red Bull KTM Ajo. He’ll have Filip Salac (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) and Senna Agius (LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP) alongside.

Moto3 Qualifying

David Almansa (Leopard Racing) left it late to fire himself into pole position for the first time in his Moto3™ career. The Spaniard will have a clear view down to Turn 1 and was the only rider able to dip into the 1’46s, with a 1’46.877 good enough to see him clear of Joel Kelso (LEVELUP-MTA) and Angel Piqueras (FRINSA – MT Helmets – MSI).

Championship leader Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) is P7, and has a Long Lap for Sunday.

Rookie and Hungary winner Maximo Quiles (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) rounds out the top ten, looking for more on Sunday.

Guenther Steiner is the new boss of KTM Tech3, with his tenure set to begin in 2026.

Richard Coleman will take over as Team Principle. “This is a fantastic opportunity,” said Steiner. “Tech3 is a great team with a huge amount of potential and an impressive legacy. Hervé’s impact on the team and MotoGP itself cannot be overstated, and we’re honored to take over and keep building on those foundations. We’re excited to become part of the MotoGP paddock and maximize the potential of the team and the sport as it continues to grow, helping to bring it to new audiences.”

Jack Miller extends

Yamaha confirmed its decision to continue with Jack Miller for 2026, with the Australian set to partner World Superbike Champ Toprak Razgatlioglu in the Pramac team next year.

Jack Miller will once again be a fixture of the grid in 2026.

“I can’t even explain how happy I am to stay a part of this project,” said Miller, who got the nod due his experience with V4 engines. “I believe in this project 100% and I believe what they’re bringing forwards with the new bike and just the magnitude that that’s going to create and the effect that’s going to have – to be able to be a part of that, to be able to have input on that and try to give my best with that, I think it’s going to be awesome.”

Honda gets its house in order

Honda confirmed two more names for its MotoGP line up in 2026 with Luca Marini remaining in the Honda HRC Castrol for a third straight season, while Johann Zarco was confirmed in LCR for a further two seasons.

Johann Zarco. More than happy with his two year extension.

“It’s good to confirm two years,” said Zarco. “I wanted to have this chance to go and to do this 2027 season, because I believe that with these new regulations, new tires, there will be some random situations that with my experience, I can have chances of more podiums, more victories maybe, because I still believe I can play in this playground to be a top rider.”

Friday MotoGP

Not a bad day at the office for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing! Brad Binder, closely followed by Pedro Acosta, led a very competitive and closely fought MotoGP field on Friday at the Monster Energy Grand Prix of Catalonia. Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) acts as the Austrian factory’s closest challenger in P3, as we see some star names face Q1 in Barcelona – Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) and Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing) being two of those, your top two from the 2024 championship.

With 20 minutes gone, Alex Marquez led the way from FP1 pacesetter Acosta and Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol), with Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR) and Enea Bastianini (Red Bull KTM Tech3) rounding out that early top five. Brad Binder then slotted into P3 to make it two Red Bull KTM Factory Racing machines inside the top three, with Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team) seventh fastest with just over half an hour left on the clock.

Brad Binder made it a perfect day for KTM with consistently fast times and and eventual P1 on Friday.

Heading into the closing 20 minutes, Bagnaia had work to do. The Italian was P21, 0.9s away from Alex Marquez’s time, and Martin was in a similar situation – the #1 was P23.

Elsewhere, Bastianini climbed to the Practice summit with 15 minutes to go to kickstart the time attack flurry we were about to enjoy in Barcelona. Bastianini’s 1:38.972 was then smashed out the park by Marc Marquez’s table-topping 1:38.444, and just behind, Zarco moved up to P2 behind the #93.

Third place was where Alex Marquez placed himself, with Acosta P4 after his first time attack effort, before then leapfrogging the #73 into P3 a lap later. Not for long though. Alex Marquez found a healthy chunk of time to rise to P1 by 0.095s, with Binder and Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) now spending some time in the top five as we entered the final 10 minutes.

Pedro Acosta backed up teammate Binder for a KTM 1-2.

Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) then made his move into the top 10. The Frenchman ascended to P4 to jump ahead of the factory KTMs, meaning all five manufacturers sat in the top seven with under five minutes left to play. The question now was, could Bagnaia find a way to barge into Q2?

Away from that storyline, Bezzecchi improved to P3 as Bastianini and Ai Ogura (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) hit the top seven. Then, two KTMs powered to P1 and P2 as Binder led Acosta with a 1:38.141, but there was no 1:38 for Pecco as things stood. The Italian was still P21 and now, crashes for Zarco and Bastianini saw the yellow flags come out. And that meant, unfortunately, Bagnaia was unable to get a final attempt in. The #63 faces Q1 for the second weekend running, as KTM celebrate a perfect Friday at the office.

Alex was the leading Marquez in third, one place ahead of brother Marc in fourth.

Marc Marquez heads into Saturday as the fourth fastest rider ahead of Bezzecchi and Bastianini, with Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) collecting P7. Zarco, despite the late tumble, held onto P8 to finish just ahead of fellow HRC star Marini and rookie Ogura, as the Japanese rider earns automatic Q2 promotion in P10. The gap between the Q2 graduates? 0.458s.

Bagnaia, Martin, Quartararo… just three of the big names who will be scrapping it out in Q1 on Saturday, as the field chase KTM in Catalonia.

Friday Moto2

Leading the Moto2 charge, Aron Canet (Fantic Racing Lino Sonego) stole the show on Friday in Barcelona with a late lap that was enough to slot him nicely into P1, less than a tenth ahead of Daniel Holgado (CFMOTO Impulse Aspar Team). The Spaniard, who was originally leading going into the closing moments, finished ahead of first Boscoscuro Jake Dixon (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) as the Brit completed the top three.

Friday Moto3

Valentin Perrone’s (Red Bull KTM Tech3) 1:47.584 saw the Argentine rookie front the Moto3 field in Practice at the Monster Energy Grand Prix of Catalonia, but it wasn’t by much. A late lap from David Muñoz (LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP) propelled the Spaniard into P2, 0.096s off Perrone, while David Almansa (Leopard Racing) collected a Friday P3.

Valentin Perrone headed the Moto3 field.

Rookies Guido Pini (LIQUI MOLY Dynavolt Intact GP) and Maximo Quiles (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team) claim Friday top fives as the latter recovers from a heavy Free Practice 1 crash at Turn 13 to go straight into Q2.

Championship leader Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) left it late but grabbed a top 10 spot to keep his 100% Friday top 14 record intact.

There was some late drama for his chief title rival though. A late lap cancellation for yellow flags saw Angel Piqueras (FRINSA – MT Helmets – MSI) end Practice in P15, which means Q1 beckons for the #36.
