Welcome back to Pro Motocross! After a two week break we’re back to the races here at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana. This is the first of the final three round-stretch that will close out the Pro Motocross season. Lets get into the action!

450 MOTO 1
Eli Tomac kicked things off with a big holeshot in the first 450 moto while Jett Lawrence found himself well outside the top 20 after hitting the gate on the start. Tomac led the first 10 minutes of the race with heavy pressure from Hunter Lawrence in second. Shortly after Hunter made his move for the lead and looked to check out from the rest of the field.

With Hunter out front, Jett and Chase Sexton found themselves working through the field after a poor start for Jett and a crash on lap one for Sexton. They caught the early front runners and put themselves in a four-way battle for the podium positions. Both riders made their passes in quick succession around the likes of Justin Cooper and RJ Hampshire to slot into the top five. They’d also find a way around Tomac as the early leader dropped back to an eventual sixth.

Jett continued to apply pressure to Sexton but the reigning champ wouldn’t let him by. After two major runs Jett backed off the pace and took home a safe third place. He was later docked a full lap for “jumping” the gate and was credited with 17th position.

Sexton continued to push to Hunter Lawrence up front and with three laps to go the Honda rider stalled his bike and allowed Sexton to sneak by for the lead. Sexton stayed upright in the closing laps to take the win.

450 MOTO 2
The second 450 moto was all about Jett Lawrence as he looked to right his mistakes in race one. The current points leader made his way to the lead on lap two and proceeded to drop the field as the laps wore on. He led the remaining 16 laps and earned the win – going 17-1 on the day. These results put him sixth overall but still see him carry a hefty 47 point lead into the final two rounds.

“I was ready to go and the gate didn’t want to drop,” Lawrence said. “The guy next to me flinched and I was just so committed that I hit the gate…They have their rules so it is what it is. The more important thing is that Hunter getting his first 450 win. It’s been a long time coming and I know he’s been very close and I’ve been a pain in the butt for him.”

Hunter Lawrence came home second again in the second 450 moto. The Honda HRC rider showed plenty of speed in the opening laps as he chased his brother at the front but slowly lost the tow as the laps wore on. He actually led the opening lap but ran third for a majority of the race before passing Tomac late in the moto. This pass was crucial as Hunter’s 2-2 earned him the overall win, the first of his 450MX career.

Eli Tomac landed on the podium in third. The Yamaha Star Racing rider claimed another holeshot in race two and rode up front for the first few laps. Tomac found himself running second for nearly all of the second moto but stalled the bike with four laps to go. He still crossed the line in third and took third overall with 6-3 scores.

Thanks in part to Jett’s penalty, RJ Hampshire was credited with third in moto one and backed that up with a fourth in moto two. These two scores helped him earn his first career 450 podium with second overall.

He worked his way up to third before crashing off the wall jump just after the finish line. Sexton walked off the racetrack and did not seem to be injured.

250 MOTO 1
Jo Shimoda fired first in the opening 250 moto as the Honda rider moved to the lead on lap one and quickly opened up a sizable lead over the rest of the field. He sprinted away in the early minutes of the race and led all but four laps as Haiden Deegan continued to chip away at the leader. With only a few minutes left on the clock Deegan made his move for the lead and pushed away from Shimoda. The two leaders crossed the line seven seconds apart.

Tom Vialle held on for third after an intense battle with Garrett Marchbanks. Vialle, who is also returning from injury, looked strong as he fought his way to a podium position.

250 MOTO 2
Haiden Deegan dominated the second 250 moto as the points leader led all 17 laps from start to finish. Deegan has never won at Ironman but in his fourth attempt he made it happen with 1-1 results. For a moment it looked like Shimoda could hold tight but the two ultimately finished more than 10 seconds apart. Shimoda’s 2-2 still put him second overall.

Tom Vialle put in another strong ride for third in moto two. The KTM rider ran inside a podium position for all 17 laps and came home with the final spot on the box. 3-3 marks one of his best rides as of late.
