Congratulations to Keith McCarthy, the 2025 recipient of the Edison Dye Lifetime Achievement Award. With more than 40 years in the industry, Keith’s leadership and passion have helped shape the sport into what it is today. From his early days at FMF to his long run at Yamaha, he’s been a driving force behind some of the biggest names and moments in motocross history.

We’re proud to celebrate his legacy at this year’s Dubya World Vet MX Championships. The award presentation will take place on Saturday night, November 1, 2025, inside the Glen Helen Museum.

Keith McCarthy, Yamaha Motors USA

Keith McCarthy’s career in motorcycle racing is a story of quiet leadership, dedication, and lasting impact. He first joined Yamaha in 1977, a young guy who simply wanted to be around motorcycles. Not long after, he found himself working with Bob Hannah, one of the most dominant riders of the era. Together, they earned multiple AMA Supercross and outdoor championships, and those early years laid the foundation for everything that followed.

As Keith’s role grew, so did his influence. He eventually led Yamaha’s entire racing division, helping guide the brand to success across motocross, Supercross, road racing, and more. While he rarely stood in the spotlight, his behind-the-scenes work helped build some of the most successful programs in the sport. He was the steady presence that teams could count on, the one who kept things running smoothly no matter how intense the pressure.

Keith played a part in shaping the careers of some of the most respected racers in the sport. Josh Hayes, Cameron Beaubier, Garrett Gerloff, JD Beach, and many others thrived under his guidance. His success was never just about results. It was about the way he built relationships, the way he treated people, and the culture of trust and excellence he helped create.

Even after retiring in 2021, Keith’s presence is still felt in the paddock and in the programs he helped build. He remains a respected figure whose influence goes far beyond wins and championships. For more than four decades, he gave everything he had to the sport and made everyone around him better for it.

We are proud to honor Keith McCarthy as the 2025 recipient of the Edison Dye Lifetime Achievement Award. His career represents the very best of what this sport can be.
