After narrowly missing the overall win in the opening round of the Women’s Motocross (WMX) Championship the previous week in Pala, California, defending series champion Lachlan Turner of Altus Motorsports bLU cRU Yamaha found redemption by taking a commanding 1-1 and the overall victory at round two of the series held on May 30, the Friday before the Hangtown Motocross Classic in Rancho Cordova, California. With this win, Turner assumed the series point lead with four rounds remaining.

After working on a few new suspension settings during the week, Turner looked unbeatable in practice.
“I was feeling amazing today,” said Turner. “The bike handled great. I just felt so comfortable on the bike, and it was a good day.”
SLR Honda’s Mikayla Nielsen had a rough start in the first moto but managed to climb to third by the end of the race. She achieved a much better start in the second moto, finishing behind only Turner. Her 3-2 results earned her second overall and marked her second podium of the young season.
“I didn’t expect anything else other than where I finished,” said Nielsen. “This is Lachlan’s home track, and I just wanted to be in points and feeling good going into the next round in Colorado. I know it’s going to be a battle with Turner swapping points and learning new stuff, but I mean, I wouldn’t want to be doing it with anyone else, so I felt good in that second moto.
“The first moto was kind of a bummer, but it could have been worse, so I’m just happy to take the positives.”
Despite recovering from a recent surgery on a broken finger, Quad Lock Honda rider Charli Cannon secured third place on the podium, marking her first of the year on the U.S. circuit.
“I’m feeling good; I’m happy to be on the podium after last weekend,” said Cannon. “I’m battling with a broken finger, so I’m not 100 percent; I’m just trying to salvage as many points as I can for this championship. But I’ll just go back and rest. I haven’t been riding during the weeks just so I can get my finger to heal a bit. I’m looking forward to the next round in Thunder Valley, so hopefully it’ll be a good one and I can get back on top.”

Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green’s Kyleigh Stallings grabbed the holeshot to start moto one of the first WMX race. However, she couldn’t hold off Turner’s strong charge. Once Turner found the lead, she never surrendered and went on to secure a solid victory. Stallings dropped back a few places to finish fourth, while Cannon and Nielsen took second and third, respectively.
“My first moto started well,” said Stallings. “I got the holeshot, and I think Lala [Turner] got around me first, then I honestly just faded back to fourth. I just stayed there the whole moto.
“In the second moto, I got the holeshot again and just kind of settled into that fourth spot.”
Passion Racing MX KTM’s Jamie Astudillo finished fifth overall with scores of 5-5.
“In the first moto, I got a decent start. I think I was in third out of the first corner, and it was just a struggle with my first two laps, so I kind of lost the group,” said Astudillo. “Then it was a little bit cat and mouse with Stallings the rest of the moto. I got a better start in the second moto, but I got caught up with Charli Cannon. She stalled the bike in a corner, and I got stuck behind her, so I lost the group again.”
Husqvarna rider Lilly-Ann Pettus finished with a score of 7-7, securing sixth overall, followed by Kawasaki’s Sophie Phelps in seventh with a score of 6-8, and Husqvarna-mounted Haileigh Williams in eighth with a score of 8-10.
Former WMX titleholder, ROTE Racing Yamaha’s Jordan Jarvis, survived what could have been a major mishap and managed a 15-6 for ninth overall. On the opening lap of the first moto, there was a crash, and Jarvis was forced to double an uphill triple and was landed on when a rider tripled behind her. She was pretty scraped up but managed to return for the second moto.
“Unfortunately, in moto one, on the first lap, I got landed on,” Jarvis said. “I got banged up. I’ve got two big hematomas on my back, but my chin and my clutch finger are black and blue and swollen, although I don’t think anything is broken,” said Jarvis. “In the second moto, I was probably about eighth or something off the line and moved up to sixth.”
Honda’s Jaylie Gallacher rounded out the top 10 with a 10-11.
