Phil Larson Leads in the Photo, But Mike Fisher Took the Win

In this week’s Throwback, we dial back the clock to October of 1984 and visit the Trans-Cal MX Series race in Hollister, California.
In this epic shot, Phil Larson leads eventual overall winner Mike Fisher in round three of the Trans-Cal 500cc Pro class. The first moto saw Larson snag the holeshot, but Fisher—normally a 125 specialist—masterfully worked his way forward, taking the lead by halfway and securing victory. Larson held on for second, just ahead of a hard-charging Danny “Magoo” Chandler. Moto 2 brought more drama as Chandler dominated, but Fisher’s calculated 2nd-place finish locked in the overall. A stellar performance by Fisher, proving his speed on the big bike, while Chandler (second overall) and Willy Simons (third) rounded out the podium. An unforgettable battle from Trans-Cal history!
