The opening round of the 2025 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park on May 4-5 ended in tragedy when two racers were killed and one sustained significant injuries in an 11-rider chain-reaction crash at the start of the afternoon’s Quattro Group British Supersport race on Monday, May 5.

The organizers, Motorsport Vision Racing (MSVR), issued a statement revealing that Owen Jenner and Shane Richardson had both passed away from injuries relating to the crash. After receiving medical treatment trackside, they were then taken to the circuit’s medical center, where Jenner died from a catastrophic head injury. Richardson was transferred to the Royal Stoke University Hospital but died prior to arrival. Richardson was a MotoAmerica Stock 1000 race winner in 2018.
Tom Tunstall was treated on the track and was taken to the circuit’s medical center. He later was transferred to the hospital with significant back and abdominal injuries.
Five other riders were treated at the circuit’s medical center and released. These riders were #9 Carl Harris, #39 Max Morgan, #48 Cameron Hall, #78 Freddie Barnes, #95 Morgan McLaren-Wood.
Three further riders were also involved but were uninjured. These riders were #25 Lewis Jones, #37 Corey Tinker and #90 George Edwards.
The Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board and MotorSport Vision Racing are investigating the full circumstances of the incident in conjunction with the coroner and Cheshire Constabulary.
Further statements will be issued when available.

Racing began on Sunday, May 4, with Bradley Ray winning the first of three scheduled Superbike races, one on Sunday and two on Monday, May 5. Leon Haslam won the second race, but all racing was canceled after the Supersport incident. CN
