Chad Reed Nailed the Start, but Ricky Carmichael Took the Win

In this week’s Throwback we dial back the clock 19 years to 2005 and visit the track that was then called Red Bud Track ‘N’ Trail and now is simply called RedBud MX. The start of the first 250cc moto of the day had Yamaha’s Chad Reed (No. 22) jumping to a quick start over James Stewart (No. 259), Ricky Carmichael (No. 4) and David Vuillemin (behind Reed). Reed led for a couple of laps before a rock caused the chain to jump off the sprocket of his machine. At that point Carmichael took over the lead and sailed away to an 18.287-second victory over Stewart and Kevin Windham. It was more of the same in the second moto as RC pulled away to another lopsided victory to score the 1-1 overall. The MX series will be back at RedBud this Saturday for the 2024 edition of the historic event.
