The Yoshimura Suzuki Rider was One of Five AMA 600cc Supersport Winners that Season

In this week’s Throwback we dial back the clock 23 years to June of 2001 and land among the scenic surroundings of Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. This photo is from that weekend’s Pro Honda Oils 600cc Supersport round four. Yoshimura Suzuki’s Aaron Yates (No. 20) leading ahead of Kawasaki’s Eric Bostrom (No. 32), Valvoline Suzuki’s John Hopkins (No. 21) and Yamaha’s Anthony Gobert (No. 16). Yates went on to win the race by 47/100ths of a second over Jamie Hacking. It marked the only 600 Supersport win for Yates that season. He was one of five winners in the series that year. Eric Bostrom went on to win the championship. MotoAmerica will visit the classic Wisconsin race circuit this weekend and Aaron Yates’ son Ashton is expected to be one of the top competitors.
